With new owners the place has been spruced up a bit but still oozes character. Really busy as the RNLI Nightdress Parade dripped in.

It you what to see how a beer should taste this is a good place to start. Ale is always kept in top condition and brings out depth (or lack) of flavour. Bit disappointed to see three Marston's beer in this renowned freehouse though.

Ringwood - Shipyard Brewing Co Independence Pale Ale
4.10
Provenance not shown on pumpclip - designed to confuse the discerning? - this was actually a good American style pale ale. Plenty of citrus hops and smooth malt.
Marston's - Pedigree New World Pale Ale (2013) (Superseded by later 3.8% version - see separate entry)
4.00
Designed to confuse. Similar name, lower abv, less character than Pedigree. Made to be easy drinking this was anonymous. Cascade hops indeed? A generous 3*.

Marsden's - Bitter
4.10
Well crafted traditional bitter brewed on the old Lion's Den plant at Cameron's Hartlepool. The micro has been bought by Marsden's and kept in situ.
Staithes - Boulby Blonde
3.50
Light golden ale. Flavoursome, crisp and refreshing. Currently contract brewed at Revolutions.
Marsden's - Stout
5.10
Black with creamy, tan head. Good mouthfeel and body. Roasty grains and subdued bitterness. Drying finish.
The pub is found in Staithes, North Yorkshire, TS13 5AD.
Family run freehouse at the top of the picture perfect seaside village of Staithes.
The former Station Hotel is a sprawling building with lots of corners to get comfortable. Open fires, regular beer festivals and live music add to the attractions.
Unstinting commitment to real ales means that an interesting choice is usually available at reasonable prices.
Excellent but simple all home made food.
The Capt. Cook offers bed and breakfast and is the process of refurbishing the bedrooms. They also two holiday cottages available.
They will be home to the Staithes Brewery when the final planning issues are resolved. Staithes beers are currently contract brewed.
We have visited this pub 6 times, seen 13 different beers and tried 8 of them.
