Just passing on my way to Coldred and noticed that this was now a freehouse. I remember it as a traditional old Shep’s local. It has had a modern makeover. I was the only customer on a Monday afternoon. Pleasant landlady told me that were trying out Canterbury Ales as a new supplier.

The pub is found in River, Kent, CT17 0QU.

Formed from 18th century flint cottages in Lower Road, now knocked through into a single area. Contemporary furnishings and a small patio area in the roadside car park. A Gardner's of Ash then Whitbread house then a Shepherd Neame house for many years until 2017. Now the only pub in this quiet village following the redevelopment of the much larger Dublin Man of War.

We have visited this pub once, seen 2 different beers and tried 1 of them.
