The Paper Moon (Wetherspoon)
We believe this building is NO LONGER a pub
Visits Details
18 Jul 2014 (Stephen Harris)
Early Friday evening and the pub is absolutely wedged. Navigating a route through the crowds needs an element of planning.
Kent - Boss' Brew | 5.50 | | Pale golden in colour. Sharply citrus, hopped with US and NZ varieties. Just my kind of thing. |
Wantsum - Turbulent Priest | 4.40 | | Dark brown, traditional bitter. Fruity. Not my kind of thing anymore really. |
Greene King - Abbot | 5.00 | Not Tried
Greene King - Ruddles Best (was 3.7%) | 3.40 | Not Tried
Wantsum - Ravening Wolf | 5.90 | Not Tried
10 Jul 2010 (Alenomore)
Lunchtime visit and fairly busy.

Wood's - Wonderful | 4.80 | Not Tried
09 Jun 2010 (ChrisE)
A very good Wetherspoons. There seems to be a strong emphasis on selling a range of beers in good condition.
Ramsbury - Gold | 4.50 | | |
Greene King - Abbot | 5.00 | Not Tried
Titanic - White Star (superseded by 4.5% version - see separate entry) | 4.80 | Not Tried

05 Jun 2010 (Alenomore)
Busy Saturday afternoon crowd.
Oakleaf (now see Fallen Acorn entries) - Hole Hearted | 4.70 | | In good condition. Plenty on here but not noted. |
10 Apr 2010 (Alenomore)
Final stop for this late Saturday visit and all festival ales changed again.
Banks's - Maui Brewery Coconut Porter | 5.00 | | Needed this and fitting to finish the long day on a pint of this. Superbly tasty, dark roasted malts and mocha abound. Little short on coconut though? Top class. |
Theakston - Grouse Beater | 4.20 | Not Tried
Moorhouse's - Amber Rambler | 4.80 | Not Tried
Holden's - Burton Runner | 4.20 | Not Tried
Everards (see entries against Joule's & Robinsons whilst its new brewery was being built) - Val-Dieu Abbaye Blonde | 5.50 | Not Tried
Sharp's - Gentle Jane | 4.80 | Not Tried
08 Apr 2010 (Alenomore)
Good crowd and decent range on.
Shepherd Neame - Fremlins Bitter | 3.50 | | Another reincarnation of an old ale. Session type. I didn't drink real ale when this was last brewed in 1990 by the defunct Fremlins, so can't pass judgement on whether it is better or worse than the original? |
Thwaites - Summat Special | 4.00 | Not Tried
Shepherd Neame - Goose Island Honkers Ale | 4.20 | Not Tried | Needed, but "coming soon" here? |
Titanic - Tomahawk | 5.00 | Not Tried
18 Mar 2010 (ChrisE)
My first visit to this pub, and I was impressed. A good range of beers, good service, and the place appears to have recently been decorated.
Conwy (Bragdy Conwy) - Rampart | 4.50 | | I really liked this beer. Copper coloured, and not too malty. |
Eagle (formerly Wells & Young's, formerly Charles Wells, formerly Wells) - Courage Best Bitter (use Marston's entry now please) | 4.00 | Not Tried
Greene King - Abbot | 5.00 | Not Tried
Greene King - Ruddles Best (was 3.7%) | 3.40 | Not Tried
Hop Back - GFB (Or Gilbert's First Brew) (superseded by 3.5% version from about 2010) | 3.80 | Not Tried
Hilden - Gael Rua | 4.30 | Not Tried
25 Feb 2010 (Martin the Mildman)
Nelson - The Paper Moon | 4.80 | | Ruby/brown beer with mainly malt character and a fairly tart, bitter finish. My score 14/20. |
