The exterior of this hotel was covered with scaffolding and the normal entrances closed, a sign gave directions to a door at the North side of the building where there is a temporary reception and bar. Once inside I found the place to be comfortable and busy with regulars who seemed a bit bemused by the changes but pleased to see the Bass on gravity dispense. I was told that once the refurbishment is completed the bar will be located at the South side of the hotel in what was the residents' lounge with views of the English Channel. I am pleased that the new owners are keeping the long standing tradition of serving Draught Bass at this hotel.

Under new management, the place seems to have had a bit of a refresh but kept very much as the Clifton that I have been using for over forty years. The bar is now open all regular pub hours and a television screen has been installed in the bar, fortunately the sound was turned off so it was possible to sit in the far corner out of sight of the television.

Evening visit, I had been to Hythe and the hourly evening bus service from there is timed to just miss my train home so this was an ideal waiting room. An enjoyable visit.

Very quiet. I needed to eat so had an excellent toasted bacon, brie and tomato sandwich to go down with my Bass.

I arrived soon after opening time in the bar and for a short while I was the only customer and had a good chat with the barman.

The pub is found in Folkestone, Kent, CT20 2EB.
The hotel is on the Lees. As you enter the hotel from the front, the bar is on the right, open to visitors and residents alike. Wooden bar with back screen. One famous for its Draught Bass for many years, but no longer. Comfy chairs and large windows overlooking the Lees.
