Lunchtime appearance for an old colleagues' Christmas lunch in a function room. First disaster was tripping up and losing a first pint on the uneven steps up to the room. Things got better. The traditional dinner was superb with oodles of sprouts (!!) and literally slabs of turkey on the plate.

I met up with a group of friends here and we stayed for most of the afternoon. A nice atmosphere in this dog friendly pub, I really liked the place except for the Yorkshire large heads and consequent short measures.

Evening. Very disappointed to see a clearly identified "off" beer left on sale.

Timothy Taylor - Golden Best (was 3.5%)3.40Excellent
Black Sheep - Golden Sheep3.90UndrinkableCustomer before me sent his back as vinegar. I asked for a taster and can only say it had burnt caramel and acetic qualities. Long delay before his bad 'un was replaced then a behind the bar cabal decided there was lots left in the cask so must be ok (!) and left on sale.

The pub is found in York, North Yorkshire, YO1 6JX.

In Micklegate, an open long room with good choice of ales. Mainly seated accommodation here - few seem to stand around the bar. Closed for a short period in Spring 2013 and re-opened in April 2013 extended into next door premises with extra table seating adding about an extra 50% capacity. 10 handpumps on the bar. Announced in June 2010 would not be opening after the Covid-19 lockdown ends and it is reported that the building's owner wishes to "re-purpose" it.

We have visited this pub 32 times, seen 109 different beers and tried 42 of them.
