17 Dec 2016 (Stephen Harris)
Uncomfortably crowded in the early evening with sport on three TVs. Difficult to get near the bar counter and I was unable to note all the cask beers available (but could see there were lots).
Great Heck - Navigator | 3.90 | | A regular Bitter that was perhaps not quite in tip top condition. |
23 Jan 2016 (Stephen Harris)
Early evening. Pub quite busy, mostly with people who have been watching football at Adams Park in the afternoon. There is an oddly unpleasant smell, which I tracked down to a wooden container of hanging meat on the bar.
Great Heck - Black Jesus | 6.50 | | A top notch Black IPA. |
Tempest - Unforgiven Smoke | 5.40 | | Excellent, complex beer. Dark, with a Bamberg-type smokiness from the malt. But dry; flavoured with juniper. |
Rebellion - Activist | 4.20 | | Described as being full of citrusy hop flavours, I struggled to detect them. This came across to me as being malt-dominated. |
Dark Star - American Pale Ale (some has also been brewed by Fuller's) | 4.70 | Not Tried
Rebellion - Roasted Nuts | 4.60 | Not Tried
Salopian - Prohibition | 4.60 | Not Tried

Caveman (latterly a cuckoo at Leatherbritches) - Neanderthal | 4.40 | Not Tried

Mid afternoon and fairly quiet. Chris E remarked the pub has been made 'trendy' since his last visit.

Tring - Ravensdell | 4.10 | Not Tried
11 Jan 2013 (Philip Pirrip)
Evening visit by a large group of 14 ale drinkers. I was very disappointed as beer range was humdrum, bar service was impeded by what seemed like inefficient engines and several in our group needed to send back the Titanic Anchor as undrinkable and some beers wore parsons' collars.
Rebellion - IPA (was 3.7%) | 3.40 | | New cask on was much better |
Rebellion - Roasted Nuts | 4.60 | | Full bodied |
Rebellion - IPA (was 3.7%) | 3.40

Brentwood - Spooky Moon | 3.80 | Not Tried
Rebellion - Icebreaker | 4.20 | Not Tried
Cottage - Jack Frost | 3.90 | Not Tried | Yet another new beer name! |
11 Jan 2013 (ChrisE)
Very convenient for the Railway Station, we met up here early on a Friday evening whilst the pub was fairly quiet, but it soon filled up. Empty glasses were cleared from tables on a regular basis.
We enjoyed reading the bottled beer menu,

07 Apr 2011 (Martin the Mildman)
A visit here by the Thursday mild drinkers filled the pub up a bit.
Rebellion - Mild | 3.50 | | On top form here with low hop rate and excellent sweet, toffee and biscuity malt. Lingering malty finish. My score 17/20. |
Wychwood (now brewed at Banks's) - Paddy's Tout | 4.30 | | Some roast maltiness but not much hoppiness and a rather thin body. My score 15/20. |
Vale - Black Swan Mild | 3.90 | | Increased strength for this dark brown mild. Malty and quite dry with an increasingly bitter finish. My score 15/20. |
Binghams - Space Hoppy | 5.00 | | Strong golden bitter with a fairly sharp, piney hop character. The finish is rather bitter. My score 13/20. |
Rebellion - Eclipse | 4.20 | Not Tried | A dark brown malty bitter with a good well rounded balance of malt and hop leading to a pleasant malty aftertaste. My score 16/20. |
