On the way to Winchester's Christmas Fair on a damp and mild Monday lunchtime. A few family groups: we debated the treatment of great aunts.Good old style pub.

17 Dec 2011 (Wittenden)
A cold Saturday lunchtime in December. Beaters from the local shoot in the public bar:tables full of diners and their dogs in the other. Real ale served by gravity from a stillage at the back of the bar.Bottles of Mackeson's stout to be had.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Palmers - Copper Ale3.70ExcellentA good malty copper coloured session bitter with a floral hoppy finish. I thought this had run out, but the landlord had taken the cask end sign down as he wanted to reserve it for his regulars In any event, I had a couple.
Banks's - Mild3.50GoodA dark brown mild. A bit thin after the Palmers.
Bowman - Nutz5.00GoodSilly name, but an interesting dark ale, allegedly brewed to a Corsican recipe, using chestnuts, which were noticeable , putting me in mind of Christmas Dinner.
Brakspear (at Marston's Wychwood) - Bitter3.40Not Tried
