Early evening and busy with bar staff coping well between the two bars, we occupied the smaller upper bar and enjoyed our last beer for the day before heading off to the Hbf..
BeerABVScoreNotes
Milltown - Black Jack4.50ExcellentA smooth easy drinking porter with liquorice notes on the palate and delicately hopped with a smooth dry finish.

Evening. Met some of our group leaving as good latecomers do. Our group had taken over a bay window. I had a chat with a Rugby CAMRA fellow I had not seen for 25 years. Just a tad disappointed, in such a highly esteemed real ale venue, to find sporadic short measures from some bar staff - no excuse. I remember when this house was an utter M&B dive but had such great welcomes and a great game of the violent Northamptonshire Hood Skittles.

My first visit since it has been refurbished, and although I have fond memories of when it was a good basic M&B boozer, I think they have done a good job with this pub, it could certainly have been worse. We sat in a bay window and enjoyed good conversation and some excellent pork pies to accompany our beer. Short measures were unfortunately rather common.
