The pub is found in Tongue, Highland, IV27 4XE.
The hotel plays an important part of the community. 'The Ben', as it's referred to by the locals, originally served the needs of the local community. What is now the staff cottage was once a post office, the public bar was a shop and the beer cellar was one of three local bakeries and the only bakery on the north coast of Scotland to use peat to bake bread! The building became a B&B in around 1906 known as Kyle View. This date was established from both the visitors' book of the period and, when the building was reconstructed in 2000, from the old insulation consisting of magazines and periodicals from the period. Over the years previous enterprising owners pulled the various buildings together and in the 1960s, with the addition of the west wing, the Ben Loyal Hotel was completed.
We have visited this pub once, seen 2 different beers and tried both.
