Tasting Summary

These comments are the opinion of the individual reviewer and represent what they thought of the beer on a particular day in a particular pub. If a review is less favourable, it may be because the beer suffered somewhere in the supply chain between them and the brewery.

RayExcellent21 Jan 2010 Poured ruby-red beer. Floral, fruity aromas with hints of toffee. Juicy biscuit malt taste melded with fruity hops and a long, spicy finish.

McGarglePoor16 Oct 2014 Looked great but no trademark fruitiness and lots of cardboard. Stale?? Just the thing to put new ale drinkers off for life.
McGargleNot Tried23 Jan 2014 Drank Erdinger instead. Maybe should have stuck with Red McG. At least it would have been cheaper!
McGargleGood04 Apr 2013 As good as Red McGregor gets. Good bitterness, rich autumn fruits.
McGargleAcceptable22 Sep 2010 Overly chilled the beer tasted a bit clumsy. Long lasting creamy head, good fruit and some hops overlaid with some harshness.

The Tartan Tavern, Oban, Argyll and Bute

HSBGood06 Jul 2014 Not my sort of beer but very well kept.

Ben Loyal, Tongue, Highland

McGarglePoor20 Aug 2010 This was an odd one. No hints of summer fruits here just booming tannic aroma and flavours of red wine - strong autumn fruits. Think cheap Shiraz and you're close.

McGargleGood09 Jul 2010 Deep red with long lasting beige head. Plenty of summer fruits offset by smooth strong malt. Satisfying dry finish.

The Samuel Peto, Folkestone, Kent

IanGood14 Jan 2010 I got the first half and pint out of the barrel. Very fresh, good condition, good hop bite on finish and nice mineral aroma and good solid fruity malts in the middle. Good.

The Butchers Arms, Herne, Kent

MickExcellent30 Apr 2009 Tawny, dark copper colour, rich and smooth with a good hop finish, very nice.

Bowl Inn, Charing, Kent

IanAcceptable14 Jul 2006 Very hazy russet colour with thick lasting beige head. Yeast and red berry aroma. OK in mouth, fulllish, good malt. Dry finish, bit earthy, red fruits. Pretty good red fruit, malt bitter with very hoppy finish

CharlesExcellent19 Mar 2006 A clear "excellent" for this one. Don't think I've ever had a bad pint of this. Balanced but bursting with flavour. Acres of malty red velvet with a rousing massed hop chorus. Very generous with the ingredients me thinks.
