A lucky connection with a bus at Sturry meant that I arrived in Herne earlier than planned. I tried the door here although the pub appeared closed. I was lucky enough to be given a buckshee half pint before the pub closed for Martyn's sixtieth birthday celebrations in the nearby village hall which was my destination anyway.

Old Dairy - Copper Top4.10Not TriedOn the board simply as ďCu TopĒ - I think Martyn delights in making life difficult for the occasional drinker (there were no brewery names on the blackboard either).

Evening visit from minutes after opening. All seemed at peace here with massive gas main replacement works closing the side road and added roadworks traffic lights, plus a mandatory burst water main then some early doors customers wielding mobile phones. Usual argumentative banter seemed so very tame after all of that action.
