I always feel relaxed in here and I was impressed by the way the staff were keeping themselves busy by cleaning bottle shelves rather than updating their facebook pages.
There was a beer from Long Man brewery in here as well. I could not see any evidence inside that this is a Greene King pub.
St Austell - Tribute | 4.20 | | In very good condition. |

Evening - quite busy for a Monday and with a PM telling people to avoid pubs. Excellent eclectic decor - including a working photo booth - worth a tour round all 3 areas if you are visiting - and do look up - there is a mini Tutankamun-like golden sculpture set into the ceiling in one bar. Sadly no Harvey’s Sussex - what’s the word for “nearly ubiquitous”?
Greene King - Hardys & Hansons Olde Trip | 4.30 | | Rich, malty in top condition. |
Castle Rock - Harvest Pale | 3.80 | Not Tried
Bath Ales - Gem Bitter | 4.10 | Not Tried
Greene King - Morland Old Golden Hen | 4.10 | Not Tried

Several people were waiting for a beer whilst the barmaid coped with a complicated coffee machine but she acknowledged customers and served with a smile once the coffee order was accomplished. A really nice pub.
Bath Ales - Gem Bitter | 4.10 | | I think this must be the best Gem that I can remember, served in a jug with a full measure of good ale. Most enjoyable. |
Castle Rock - Harvest Pale | 3.80 | Not Tried
St Austell - Tribute | 4.20 | Not Tried
Greene King - Hardys & Hansons Olde Trip | 4.30 | Not Tried

Late afternoon very quiet one other customer. Once again I've been offered a straight glass or the dimply one to drink my beer from.
Batemans - Gold | 3.90 | | Light with a citrus hint in superb condition. |
Greene King - Hardys & Hansons Olde Trip | 4.30 | Not Tried
Greene King - Abbot Reserve | 6.50 | Not Tried

The Good Beer Guide says this has 2 Greene King beers and "guests" which made me think this was a free house. It isn't, it's a Greene King pub. I don't call random beers from the Greene King stable "guests". Anyway, it was a nice enough pub inside. Slightly gothic in feel I thought.
Ridleys - Witchfinder | 4.30 | | Both Ian and I had this. As I sipped it I instantly thought Vinegar! ...but Ian reckoned it was okay. Now Ian can spot diacetyl from 20 paces but vinegar seems to pass him by. This beer was awful. |
Greene King - IPA (was 3.6%) | 3.40 | Not Tried
Greene King - Fireside | 4.50 | Not Tried

Could be a very good pub. The people behind the bar didn't seem that interested in customer service or helping us find a street nearby, plus GK is not favourite brewer.
Ridleys - Witchfinder | 4.30 | | Vinegary porter, not in great nick. No condition. Some liquorice. We had to leave our half pints. |
