As always a glutton for punishment I popped in here to see if there was anything exciting on. I should've known better. Ummm...

Well timed mid evening visit just after 8pm last food orders with many folk leaving as I arrived. Bar staff busy on table clearing duties meant a slightly longer wait for service. All real ales @ £2.80pp on Mondays for the thrifty minded.

We had 30 or so minutes to spare before our table booked for 18.30 in the nearby Cinnamon Spice so popped in here to see what was available..

Fancied an early evening nightcap and found the place busier than usual with many folk attending a funeral wake. Efficient service from the bar staff kept waiting times minimal.

Late evening just before advised last orders at 22.00, I decided to pop in here before my arduous 90 seconds walk home. Eerily quiet just one other in who left shortly after.

Marston's - Wychwood Hobgoblin IPA (was Ruby Beer, was Hobgoblin)4.50GoodI'm hoping this is the correct choice of the many options available on this site for this rich dark chewy malty fare..

Mid evening and busy it must be OAP's discount night :).. After suffering a couple of fizz 'craft beers' in The Taproom in town it was a pleasure to drink the real stuff again.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Jennings (since closure now brewed at Marston's) - Cumberland Ale4.00GoodMalty dry cooking bitter but a refreshing change from Pedigree @ £3.75 a pint for the thrifty minded!

Early evening and busy with more of the older folk than younger. Curiosity got the better of me to see if the beer range had improved. It hadn't. Casque mark Monday is now £2.80 a pint.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Marston's - Pedigree4.50GoodFresh cask so a few were pulled through until satisfaction was reached by the landlord.

Late afternoon much busier than expected, we sat in the games area occupied by noisy youths playing pool making noises similar to one experiences visiting a zoo's monkey house!
BeerABVScoreNotes
Marston's - Pedigree4.50GoodIn fine form, I couldn't decide if this merits a 3.5 or 4 star so I'll give it 3.75

Late afternoon plenty of space available so I opted for the round table 'perch' seats by the entrance. Sadly the days of this pub offering a decent range of beers from the Marston's 'empire' have long gone.
