Easter Sunday late afternoon and the pub is packed for a festival of Scottish beers. Scottish beers are not necessarily my favourites, but it would be poor form to have come all this way and not get stuck in.

13 Oct 2010 (McGargle)
Very busy and friendly but one or two yappy dogs. 13 hand pumps is probably too many as some beers did not sell all night.
No food available on this visit so if you're hungry it might be better to ring ahead.

Straw coloured with tight white head. Fresh aromas and citrus hops well balanced by light smooth malt.
Jarrow - Rivet Catcher

Lacking in freshness none of the citrus zest was apparent leaving a slightly aggressive flavour.
High House Barn (formerly High House Farm) - Cyril the Magnificent

Supposedly a dunkel it was a hazy dark brown with none of the freshness of a German wheat beer.
Geltsdale - Tarnmonath

Golden bitter with slight citrus aromas. Probably a little past its best.

The pub is found in Wylam, Northumberland, NE41 8HR.
Two roomed pub with many jandpumps. CAMRA Northumberland Pub of the Year 2012 - the most recent of many CAMRA awards. Gets very busy at weekends and at the regular beer festivals held here. Right next door to Wylam railway station.
We have visited this pub 4 times, seen 33 different beers and tried 13 of them.
