16 Jan 2017 (Philip Pirrip)
Evening visit. Not the best time for a first visit, a Monday, door locked before advertised 11pm close, blagged a way in.
Long Arm - Birdie Flipper | 4.50 | | Eye-catching pumpclip! Red ale style not really to my taste |
Twickenham (also uses sub-brand Old Hands) - Grandstand Bitter | 3.80 | Not Tried
Gun - Pale Ale | 4.60 | Not Tried
Summer Wine (SWB) - Stateside | 4.30 | Not Tried
06 Jan 2017 (Stephen Harris)
Busy in here on a Friday night; and there is something about the customers in this pub, who seem to be the type that just do not understand the meaning of “excuse me please” when you are trying to move about the place.
Moor - So'Hop | 4.10 | | Golden and sharply hoppy. |
Twickenham (also uses sub-brand Old Hands) - Naked Ladies | 4.40 | Not Tried
Moor - Raw | 4.30 | Not Tried
Southwark - Bermondsey Best | 4.40 | Not Tried
31 Dec 2014 (Stephen Harris)
Mid-afternoon. You know how sometimes you just seem to be invisible at the bar and cannot get served? That happened to me here. And you know how sometimes you are sitting in a pub minding your own business and somebody comes along and says “Sorry mate, I’ve reserved that table”? That happened to me here too.
Redemption - Rock the Kazbek | 4.00 | | Lovely, hoppy, golden pint. |
Dancing Duck - 22 | 4.30 | Not Tried
Summer Wine (SWB) - Zenith Pale Ale | 4.00 | Not Tried

12 Apr 2012 (Stephen Harris)
Crowded on Thursday evening.
Ilkley - Siberia | 5.90 | | A rhubarb saison! And absolutely lovely. Strong rhubarby taste. Dry rather than sweet. Good wheaty, spicey saison character. |
Arbor Ales - Ryeteous Mild | 3.70 | | Copper-coloured. Strongly rye-flavoured with dusty dry-hopping. Not at all obvious why the word ‘mild’ has been used in the name. Good though. |
Whitstable - Renaissance Ruby Mild | 3.80 | | Sweet and bland. I couldn’t work out whether it was barrel-end or just a poor beer. It went off shortly after mine was poured, so I guess it was the former. |
Dark Star - Partridge Best Bitter | 4.00 | Not Tried
Oakham - Preacher | 4.30 | Not Tried
14 Jul 2011 (oz11)
First pub on a crawl: 4pm, empty apart from one family group. Both beers I had suffered from being served too warm.
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - Citra | 3.10 | | ..but too warm. |
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - California | 5.30 | | Just to be pedantic it said "Californian" on the pump clip. |
Oakham - Citra | 4.20 | Not Tried | ABV given as 4.2% on pump clip |
08 Jun 2011 (Dubbel)
Fast becoming my favourite haunt. Busiest I've seen it. Friendly, accommodating staff and clued-up clientele supping a fine selection from cask and keg. We only didn't eat because there were no free tables! Stood out the front in the warm evening sun.
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - California | 5.30 | | Delighted to find this again and as good, if not better, than at the Cross Keys. Just a magnificent beer, golden and chocked full of chewy hop flavour that knocks spots off almost everything else. |
Titanic - Steerage (superseded by 3.8% version - see separate entry) | 3.50 | Not Tried
BrewDog - Trashy Blonde | 4.10 | Not Tried
26 Feb 2011 (Ian)
Really busy Saturday mid afternoon with people watching the rugby. Landlord is doing a good job bringing excellent beer in cask, tap and bottle form to the Tower Bridge area.
Dark Star - Hophead was 3.8% (some has also been brewed by Fuller's) | 3.40 | | I mean its good. Just not as good as at The Butchers Arms |
Breconshire - Rambler's Ruin | 5.00 | Not Tried
Sambrook's - Wandle | 3.80 | Not Tried
08 Feb 2011 (Martin the Mildman)
Busy on a Tuesday evening atound 8pm with diners. Not much space for those who just want a drink. More of a Restaurant which happens to sell good beer and therefore not a favourite of mine.
Redemption - No.1 Dark Mild | 6.10 | | A collaborative brew with Kernel. A black strong mild which I found rather thick and cloying with too much sweet, sticky malt making it a challenge to drink. My score 14/20. |
