It would've been rude not to pop in here on our way back to the bahnhof, busy as expected for a Friday evening but a most friendly welcome and we took up the suggestion of occupying the empty games room for our short stay.

Another post-hike call – today I’ve been reacquainting myself with Vange and Fobbing Marshes. Busy with TV sports fans on Saturday afternoon. I’ve been watching the Hobbit films and realised that the pub-sign here has a Mirkwood appearance.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Mr Majolica's - Boing!4.30GoodAs a rule I don’t really approve of punctuation on pimp-clips. But glad I went for this well-hopped, golden beer. Spicy hops.

I had arrived at Grays following a scenic walk from Purfleet (scenic if you like industrialised riverscape – which I do, as it happens) and was ready for a pint. I decided to visit all four Grays GBG pubs, starting here. Fairly quiet at early lunchtime.

Mid-Saturday afternoon. Test match cricket on one screen, international rugby on the other. Scary-looking locals seated between the two (although no doubt they are entirely harmless).

Evening. Impressive old Charrington's illuminated back fitting reminded of days of Charrington IPA, Crown and Bass all over the east side of London and suburbs.
