Mid afternoon and very busy with the lone barmaid doing a sterling service keeping everyone happy. My first visit to this much celebrated and well run pub needs to be visited by executives of pub companies for an example of how it should be done! Sadly the lack of care and interest of CE's/CEO's etc extends far beyond the pub trade...
Hop Back - Summer Lightning | 5.00 | | All my SL expectations satisfied.. |
Leatherbritches - A Lighter Shade Of Pale | 4.00 | | A full bodied citra and El Dorado hopped refreshing ale. Good to see the renaissance of Leatherbritches ales doing the rounds again.. |

Mid-afternoon. Unfortunately I arrived in the middle of an altercation between the barman and a regular that ended in the latter storming out after demanding and not receiving an apology. The atmosphere was strained and I did not linger.

A busy Friday evening and my first visit here, I was very impressed with this place, a good civilised place to enjoy a few beers without having to suffer television screens, a proper traditional pub with good service and good beer, excellent. I enjoyed looking at the breweriana and other paraphernalia around the bar.
Purple Moose - Snowdonia Ale (Cwrw Eryri) | 3.60
Allendale - Black Grouse | 4.00
Sambrook's - Junction | 4.50 | | The best pint of this that I have had for some time. |

Lunchtime visit and I really liked this pub, which I had not been in before. A no-nonsense, traditional sort of place. Two large slabs of cheese (Gorgonzola and mature Cheddar) were placed on the bar for customers to help themselves to, and the landlady made a point of urging non-regulars, such as myself, to make sure we got stuck in.
Titanic - Compass | 4.10 | | Amber in colour. A bitter sort of bitter. |
Titanic - Mild | 3.50 | | Black mild with plenty of malt tastes and a little bitterness. |
Sambrook's - Junction | 4.50 | Not Tried
Downton - Quadhop | 3.90 | Not Tried
10 May 2012 (Martin the Mildman)
A visit from the Thursday evening mild drinkers filled the pub up well.
Green Jack - Albion Mild | 4.00 | | In top condition here with a good chocolate and toasted malt character and low hop rate. Some fruit in the finish. My score 16/20. |
Downton - Forest Dark | 3.80 | | Sweet and malty mild with toffee and caramel notes with a hint of chocolate. Low hop rate and a dryish finish. My score 16/20. |
Downton - Quadhop | 3.90 | | Pale bitter with a sweetish fruity hop character. Some maltiness and a dryish finish. My score 15/20. |
