13:45 Classic car show in Grey Street was attracting the crowds but the pub was fairly quiet. Very knowledgeable bar man. One of the pump clips had an SPBW sticker attached to it. Something I have never seen before.
Wylam / Siren Craft Collaboration - The Lights Are On | 5.00 | | Wow! Described as "A super-stacked alpha pale". Probably the hoppiest cask beer I have ever drunk. |

23 Jul 2014 (Stephen Harris)
Late lunchtime visit and the pub becomes very quiet after 2pm. Nice chicken pasta with my beer.
Parkway (formerly Glastonbury Ales) - Mighty Chi | 6.50 | | Amber-coloured and served with a thick head. Smooth and heavily-hopped. |
Three Kings - Dragons Teeth | 4.10 | | A near black Porter. Roasty and, I thought, gingery. |

27 Oct 2013 (Stephen Harris)
Sunday mid-evening. Newcastle city centre seems to be full of aggressive young men who have had too much to drink. Several pubs seem rather unappealing; but this one is a welcome haven.
North Riding Brewpub - Podium Pale Ale | 4.00 | | Very nice, hoppy, crisp, pale gold-coloured beer. |
S43 (formerly Sonnet 43) - Feeling Out of Sight | 5.00 | | Copper-coloured. Caramel and pacific jade hops. I think the combination works. |

25 Oct 2012 (Stephen Harris)
I know from experience that the Newcastle working day finishes early, but it is still a surprise to find this pub crowded with after-workers at 4:15. Nice to see a clear differentiation here between ‘Key Keg’ beers, which I would happily drink another day and ‘CO2 Keg’, which I’d be happy to avoid. First time I’ve seen kegs clearly labelled in this way in a pub.
Three Kings - Ring of Fire | 4.50 | | Amber. Tasty. Balanced malt and hops. |
Steel City (cuckoo at Toolmakers) - Barbed Wire Kisses | 5.40 | | An unexpected departure for Steel City – this is an all-English hops, amber-coloured, best bitter. Full-bodied and malty with a bit of caramel and a bitter finish. |
Wellington Inn - Beau Douro | 4.30 | | Golden in colour, but a bit lacking in flavour. The GBG says it is ‘crisp’ and this sample was anything but; more like soft and a little soapy. Must have been a bit below par. |
Jarrow - Rivet Catcher | 4.00 | Not Tried
Swannay (formerly Highland) - Orkney IPA | 4.80 | Not Tried
Arbor Ales - Yakima Valley | 7.00 | Not Tried
