I used to use this pub when I worked nearby and this was a delightful small Charrington pub which I liked, and I still do now it is owned by Truman's who have done a good job here. I was tempted by the sausage rolls and the salt beef but decided to stick to beer. Welcoming bar staff made me feel at home and offered tasters of all the cask beers on offer.

There was a soft launch last Thursday, but tonight is the first official night of re-opening under Truman’s ownership. Predictably, the place is rammed at 7pm. I’ll have to come back on a quieter night to get a better feel for the pub.

The pub is found in Fitzrovia, Central London, W1T 1NG.
First licensed in 1863 in an older building. This is a very small pub beside an atmospheric alleyway in Rathbone Street. It was frequented at one time by George Orwell, who may have used it as the model for 1984’s ‘Proles Arms’. There is only room for a couple of tables in the main bar, plus there is a little downstairs snug. Historically a Charrington’s house, this pub re-opened in May 2018 after a period of closure as the revived Truman’s Brewery’s first tied house. There are four handpumps on the bar.
