Early evening and almost empty, I had a suit of armour beside my table for company.

A former coaching inn standing on the southern approach to the city centre. This pub has 15th century origins and still operates as a hotel. Visiting drinkers have a choice from three wood-panelled rooms. A one-time Benskins Brewery house, there are four handpumps on the bar counter.
