Visits Details

30 Aug 2025 (Hogan Sampling)
8th stop on the outing: Only my second visit to The George and ticking over nicely with a good few punters in. The remaining members of the CAMRA branch on the outing had now reduced to just four and given it was now early evening. Friendly prompt service for a range of six real ales on and with two from the in-house brewery.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Long Man - Best Bitter4.00GoodVery good head and lacing and lasting throughout on this East Sussex Best Bitter, brewed in-land between Seaford and Eastbourne. A dry bitterness on the first bite. A malty bitterness rising and a fruity note or two revealing itself. A dry hoppiness from its Fuggles and Goldings hops playing out.
Fonthill - Best4.10GoodGood head and lacing but not lasting on this bitter from the in-house brewery. A very dry hoppy bitter first hit. A gentle maltiness rising with a hint of caramel and biscuit. A fruit-infused hoppy bitterness lingering before sailing off.
Garage Culture - Session Best3.90GoodGood head and lacing and lasting. A dry fruity first bite. A bitter fruitiness leaping up to perform a dry hop-infused dance on my taste buds. The odd grapefruit hint gently rising and lingering.

The pub is found in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, TN4 8AA.

Found in the upper end of Tunbridge Wells at 29 Mount Ephraim, is this old coaching inn. It served those travelling between Tunbridge Wells and London and dates back to when the town was developed in Georgian times. Believed to have been built in 1739, the interior of the building retains exposed beams, brickwork, fireplaces and oak floorboards. On a visit in late August 2025, The George houses the Fonthill Brewery Company which started brewing in November 2017 and produces 10 firkins per brew once a week. The brewery has five cask ales and three keg ales in their range. CAMRA Branch Pub of the Year in 2018 and 2019. Dog-friendly.

We have visited this pub once, seen 6 different beers and tried 3 of them.
