2nd pub visited in Dale Street. I have passed this pub many times before. Super City street corner local and very friendly. Don't be fooled by the smaller beer range than the nearby Lion or Ship & Mitre. Another flavoured beer experience.

Another of my favourite pubs. I sat in the snug front of the pub and enjoyed drinking Shepherd Neame beer in Liverpool.

| Shepherd Neame - Amber Ale | 4.50 | | Crazy, I come all the way from Kent where I can’t find it, to Liverpool, where I can. I almost missed the pump clip at the end of 6 handpulls and had to squint to see who the brewer was of this amber ale. Of course, once I saw what it was, I ended up drinking a pint and a half of it. Deep amber in colour, with a lasting cream head. It’s a decent amber with that rich slight roasted maple syrup pecan nut flavour which I like so much. Some Sheps yeast. Now almost obligatory hop all over it. Can’t believe it. They’re turning out good stuff. Great malts, really good hops on the finish, like earthy really fresh hop. Brilliant. |

Back in the day, this was one of my favourite pubs. I remember bringing someone here and Oakhams JHB was on and being really excited. It closed for a bit and now spruced up, but keeping its integral character, really glad it has opened again. Will be back for sure.

| Boggart - Rum Porter | 4.60 | | So many rum beers don’t offer the rum the name promises. This does. Clear, very dark brown colour with a thick lasting dark beige head. Impressed with condition of the beers in this pub, if not the temperature which tends to be too cold, if this visit is anything to go by. Smells like a dark cherry choc liqueur and tastes like one too. Completely bizarre, some coconut, or is that the overpowering perfume from the scary dozen or so middle aged women to my left. Nope it really is a dark cherry dark choc liqueur. Good condition though and it holds it all together really well, even giving a bit of sourness to the cherry on the finish. Utterly bizarre but i want to share this with so many people. Crazy but true beer. |

Carries weight of ABV well. Good biting earthy hops. Impressive. Bit cold, but great flavours.Labelled as Ruby Ale, but looking at the brewery website, it must be this beer. |

Corner pub half way up Dale Street. The pub slopes up from the front door with a snug at the front, bar to the side and then rear room with cream and black chequered floor and plush cherry red velvet bench seats. Classic pub. 7 handpumps, 1 of which usually carries a cider.
