4th visit of the outing: Busy early evening but not overly to find a table not too far from the bar and to assist a pint with a meal to aid soaking up some of those earlier ales.

Adnams - Good Word Read the Room4.00GoodBrewed by Adnams Brewery in Southwold, this Suffolk-based amber coloured brown ale is a collaboration with Good Word Brewing from Georgia, USA, for the J D Wetherspoon Spring 2026 Beer Festival. Todd DiMatteo, owner and brewer at Good Word Brewing has worked alongside the Adnams’ team to develop the recipe. Very good head and lacing and lasting. A malty caramelised first hit. A hoppy bitterness from UK Goldings hops rising providing an earthy, honey-like, and slightly spicy character. A mild maltiness winning over from its brown malt lending it bready and toasty notes and its chocolate malt aiding its lingering dark chocolatiness. Very palatable and assisted admirably in downing a Spoons’ curry.

4th visit of the outing: Busy for our early evening arrival for our party of two and so as to soak up a good few beers, especially those supped in The South Park Tap, with some suitable dish to accompany Wetherspoon's own liquid offerings. A table and chairs rapidly spotted and the usual prompt, efficient service.

Flack's (a.k.a. Flack Manor) - Black Jack Porter4.60ExcellentThis dark ruby-coloured porter from a brewery in Romsey, Hampshire, and north-west of Southampton, and known for using the traditional double-drop fermentation method, certainly did not disappoint! My fellow real enthusiast also went for this having been lusting after such a dark real ale in the micropub we had just come from. Head and lacing to die for and clinging onto the sides of the glass the whole way down. A bitter and dark fruited first bite. A malty fruitiness rising aided by its English Goldings and Fuggles hops. A lingering bitterness prevailing before its final downwards journey accompanied by a hint of hazelnut. It very ably washed my curry down.

9th visit of the outing: Our party of 8 were surviving well by this mid-evening finale visit at about half past eight but our tummies were rumbling. This Sevenoaks Wetherspoons had produced one or two empty tables for us unlike two hours earlier when we had last tried. A choice of four festive beers on as well as the usual to help wash down my supper and so lovely jubbly before my roll down the hill for the train back to London!

Coach House - Christmas Stocking4.30GoodThis Cheshire-brewed winter ale from Warrington presented a good head and I duly approved it after my tasting of it. Its lacing went on to prove it could last just as well as me on this epic of an outing! A mildly fruited first bite with hints of pear. A hoppy bitterness rising with the odd spicy note from its cinnamon and ginger flavourings. A touch of caramel in on the mix sailing off into the sunset. It helped to sink my curry admirably!
