14 Sep 2012 (Alenomore)
18:00 visit. Met up with my local compatriots in here, at the end there working week. Quite busy, with an impressive, as always, large range of ales on. Great to visit the old place again, and just time now for a couple of samples before we moved on. A current, 2013 gbg entry and 6 times previous in:1987/2008-12
BeerABVScoreNotes
Offbeat - Out of Step IPA5.80ExceptionalA top example of the style, and no surprises that it's another winner today!
Empire - Export Stout6.00ExceptionalA top stout, full of everything and a second winner here today. Numerous other winners were noted, alas, time to move on.

Irwell Works - Dark Satanic Mills4.00GoodBright red in colour, as a pale beer with added colouring might be. The flavour is that of a pale style, being bitter and quite hoppy with a dryish finish. My score 15/20.

07 May 2011 (Martin the Mildman)
Fairly busy mid Saturday afternoon.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Irwell Works - Tin Plate Dark Mild3.60ExcellentRuby/black in colour. Sweet and malty with toffee, chocolate and liquorice flavours all present. Low hoppiness. The finish is sweetish and quite fruity. My score 16/20.
Summer Wine (SWB) - Valencia Citra Pale Ale4.00AcceptableVery pale and extremely hoppy. As much as I like the Citra hop, there was just a little too much in this, giving a very sharp, unbalanced dry citrus flavour that wasn't entirely to my taste. One for devoted hopheads. My score 14/20.
20 Jan 2011 (Martin the Mildman)
Beer festival in progress and pub busy as a result.
