20 Jan 2010 (Martin the Mildman)
Fairly quiet late afternoon/early evening even though there was a beer festival taking place.
Brown Cow - Vanilla Porter | 4.90 | | Superb! Best beer of 2010 so far, good taste of vanilla without overpowering the other flavours, namely some hoppiness and a little roast malt. Good lingering finish. My score 18/20. |
Bird Brain - Velvet Scoter | 3.80 | | Dark mild style beer, black in colour with lots of sweet, caramelly malt, slight coffee taste and low hopping. My score 16/20. |
Phoenix - Blizzard | 4.00 | | Pale and quite sweet, slight hint of diactyl, not a lot of hop in this. Rather cloying in the finish. My score 14/20. |
Brown Cow - Celestial Light | 4.10 | Not Tried | |

Busy with passing trade from the nearby Cathedral and beer tasters for the end of month mini-fest.

Mallinsons - Emley Moor | 3.40 | | A dark mild with some hoppiness and a little malt balance. My score 15/20. |
Bazens' - Bitter Treat | 3.90 | | Plenty of hop bitterness in this but also some malt balance. My score 15/20. |
Three B's - Bee Thrifty | 3.40 | | Pale low strength bitter, fairly dry tasting with some hop and malt balance. My score 14/20. |
Phoenix - Dry Pale Ale | 4.30 | | They're not wrong there, that is exactly what it is - citrus hoppiness providing the dryness. My score 14/20. |

18 Jul 2009 (Ian)
I really liked this pub, the curry was superb and freshly handmake, the beers were a good variety, excellent world bottle/tap list and the Phoenix Strawberry on keg blew everyone away. Would definitely come back to this pub.
Coastal - Handliner | 4.00 | | Very dark chestnut colour, lasting dark beige head. Quite a tasty dark malty beer. Best bitter/ESB flavours, good fruit. Dry finish, Decent |
Mallinsons - Salford Pale Ale | 3.90 | | Gold, sweaty hop, ok, pretty decent and solid. |
Betwixt - Sunlight | 4.30 | | Gold, thin lasting beige head. Solid golden bitter. Good and very drinkable. |
Bazens' - Sunshine Ale | 4.10 | | Gold, thin beige head. Bit of fart, bit of hop citrus. Reminds me of stale nuts. Not too good |
