Our first visit to a cracking pub. Near the river and oozing with atmosphere. Fyne Ales tap takeover tonight.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Fyne - Golden Mild3.60ExcellentReminiscent of Tomothy Tayhlor's Golden Best this was a flawlessy executed light mild. Fully deserved its 5*.
Fyne - Hurricane Jack4.40GoodOne of my favourite beers but not quite so hop forward tonight.
Fyne - Whisky Barrel Aged Jarl6.70PoorThis was a strange one. Jarl aged in whisky barrels was, according to the brewer, expected to turn out around 4.5%abv. It didn't! Flavour was overpoweringly whisky with no hint of the base beer. Interesting but misjudged.

Around 2 hours later than planned owing to missed connections and delyed trains we headed straight to here. Quiet for a mid Friday afternoon with just 3 others in we opted for the snug and were soon joined by many others.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Allendale - Golden Plover4.00ExcellentFull bodied flavoursome golden ale with citrus notes and an enticing floral aroma.
Five Points - Best4.10ExcellentNotes of caramel and biscuit, and a lovely grassy, herbal freshness.

A much needed pint after a horrendous rail journey from Carlisle. It is nice to see this place open again although much quiter than I rember it.

Evening visit thanks to Mr P's recommendation. It didn't disappoint - not all ales noted - too dark - one was a World's End brew. I was told later this pub is nicknamed "the coffin". It is higher than it is wide.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Allendale - GFPA4.70ExcellentWell balanced and in top condition.

Late-ish evening visit, with the crowds thinning out a bit.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Redscar - Poison4.00GoodA very dark ruby red mild. Smooth. Caramel. Not the sort of thing I usually much care for, but this is really good for its style.

This is actually the first time I have ever been here – no surprise to find that I like the place. Quiet in mid-afternoon.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Yorkshire Dales - Carperby Calypso3.80ExcellentA very pale beer with a strong, bittersweet, hop taste.
Wylam - Gold Tankard4.00AcceptableGolden in colour. Plenty of hops, but dominated by a ‘cereal’ taste that personally I don’t like.
