Fantastic atmosphere in this very traditional old boozer. Old gramophone playing period vinyl records added to the sense of being in a different era. Good value butties behind the bar too. The best pub on my tour.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hadrian Border - Gladiator3.80AcceptableSlight name change as now relocated to a new brewing site. This was a malty bitter with a nutty flavour but little hoppiness to add an extra dimension. My score 14/20.

I walked back to the Vermont, caught the lift from the 6th floor to the first, walked out the back door, turned right and there was the sign. Interestingly enough, on the following night when I was relating this story to a regular in the Newcastle Arms, he said he knew someone who used this shortcut on a regular basis to get from one pub to the next. Rightly famous pub with a feel about it that hasn't changed for decades. I sat in the front snug with a bunch of students finishing off my presentation for the next day.
