03 May 2024 (Philip Pirrip)
Evening visit. Music on request to a laptop equipped DJ.
Chislet - Island Road | 4.50 | | Replacement pint of same had more flavour but really little more natural carbonation. Still disappointing |
Chislet - Island Road | 4.50 | | 1st one poured totally flat and with no condition with an explained justification. The co-owner later came over, asked how it was and agreed should be replaced. There is really no need, even on gravity dispense, to sell any cask ale in this state |
Goody Ales - Bleangate Brewery - Genesis | 3.50 | Not Tried
Goody Ales - Bleangate Brewery - Good Lord | 5.00 | Not Tried
Chislet - Nethergong | 5.00 | Not Tried
05 Mar 2024 (Magnus Greel)
Mid evening busy around the bar but space free elsewhere so we nabbed the ubiquitous wobbly table by the entrance. Great service from the guv frequently wandering around ready to offer refills if required.
Hop Fuzz - Fallout | 3.60 | | Light and fresh with gentle zesty notes. |
Chislet - Island Road | 4.50 | | Hoppy with slight citrus, biscuit and caramel. |
Romney Marsh - Amber Ale | 4.20 | Not Tried
Romney Marsh - Best Bitter | 4.00 | Not Tried
14 Apr 2023 (Philip Pirrip)
Late afternoon visit my first since new name and new licensees. Very hospitable.
Hop Fuzz - English | 4.00 | | Basic bitter in good condition |
Kent - Pale | 4.00 | Not Tried
Romney Marsh - Amber Ale | 4.20 | Not Tried
Romney Marsh - American Pale Ale | 5.00 | Not Tried
06 Jan 2023 (Jack William)
Early evening. A good mix of age and gender when I arrived. But just old blokes when I left. This has been freshened up since the Scarecrow days. Very hospitable new host “call me Jay” Jason. Definitely focussed on real ale as well as cider now. 3 good ales on. Bumped into an old salty acquaintance Yacht Club Dave. Good chat - and he remarkably knew Avril, the iconic landlady (1970/80s) of the Dolphin, Canterbury.
Angels & Demons (now uses McCanns branding not its own) - Bombay Social | 3.80 | | Top notch - great body for a 3.8% |
Kent - Chinook | 4.50 | | |
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - No. 3 | 5.00 | Not Tried
03 Sep 2017 (Philip Pirrip)
Evening 7.50pm. Lights off, no sign of life despite opening hours sign saying 9pm close. No explanation or apology sign that I could see.
07 Apr 2017 (Jack William)
Just the one ale on - but plenty of ciders of course - a few hardy souls in.
Dark Star - Hophead was 3.8% (some has also been brewed by Fuller's) | 3.40
02 Mar 2017 (Philip Pirrip)
Late on in the evening. Having found The Mash Tun closed earlier was coincidental to find a drayman delivering here as a favour for The Mash Tun and he was off even at this time of night to deliver to the Red Lion at Snargate.
Oakham - Inferno | 4.00 | | Top notch |
27 Jan 2017 (Jack William)
Early evening - glad to get here at last - few in but very friendly. Big do planned for the evening with "Dark side of the Moo" ready for the occasion. Like it - and the oversize glasses to ensure a full pint.
Elland - Beyond the Pale | 4.20 | | Fresh and vibrant. Shame it is not Summer. |
Old Dairy (being contract brewed after it closed) - Dark Side of the Moo | 7.00 | | Liquorice, smoky - a big beer in all respects. |
22 Dec 2016 (Philip Pirrip)
Mid evening visit. Loud carol singing started as I went to the toilet and upon my return a party of female songster Kings of the Orient had entered, how spooky to see those pencilled on beards so I scurried off.
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Seasider | 4.30
17 Dec 2016 (Philip Pirrip)
Evening visit. Overly warm and cosy on a balmy night, exacerbated by a brisk walk with a heavy bag. The enigma of The Breakwater Brewery Taproom being closed all day today was answered here.
Oakham - Citra | 4.20 | | In lovely nick |
