Mid to late-evening. Never busy but a steady ticking over of customers, including several good friends.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - London Fields Pale Ale4.00ExcellentGoodness, this was on form tonight. Alcoholic grapefruit juice.
Mikkeller - K:RLEK5.60ExcellentOn keg dispense. I doubt there is anywhere else where you can drink Mikeller beers at £3:60 a pint. This is an amber-coloured, US-style Pale Ale.
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - Amarilla4.20GoodGolden and heavily-hopped.
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - Bethnal Green Bitter4.00Not Tried

Just a slow ticking over of trade on a Monday evening - until 8pm when a crowd arrived to play cribbage in the back bar.

Mid afternoon 4 other customers in shame to see this large unspoilt proper East London boozer so quiet.

This is the first time I have spent any part of the Easter holiday in London for several years. It gives a chance to visit the annual beer festival here. 44 Brodie’s-brewed beers are being sold over the weekend, and perhaps half of them are available today in bottle, keg or cask – I list just those I drank.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - Jamaica Stout (was 5%)5.40ExceptionalPerhaps my favourite Brodie’s beer anyway, always a hoppy beer, this cask is dry-hopped with Citra and extra yummy.
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - Mosaic for Breakfast10.10ExcellentOn keg dispense. Smooth, slightly sweet, Oatmeal Stout with a huge hop content.
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - Brewers Gold Pale4.50ExcellentPale, single-hop beer. Brewers Gold gives a spicy, orangey flavour to the beer.
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - Chunky Monkey Chocolate Stout7.10ExcellentOn keg dispense. A very full-flavoured Stout.
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - Apple & Stem Ginger Porter5.80ExcellentA black Porter, full of fruit and ginger flavours.
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - Archer Pale Ale4.50GoodPale, single-hop beer. English Archer hops giving an unusual, fruity taste.
11 Feb 2016 (Stephen Harris)
Much quieter in here than on recent visits. Apparently trade is highly dependent on whether there is any televised football – none tonight. Even the regulars’ table was depleted in numbers.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - Minstrel Pale Ale4.20ExcellentVery pale gold in colour. Non-standard hop flavours.
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - Azacca Pale Ale4.40GoodAn exceptionally dry, pale golden beer.

Mid-evening and there is a good Friday night bustle in here.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - Simcoe for Breakfast10.10ExceptionalOn keg dispense and rationed out only by the third pint. A fantastic, hoppy Stout. Beer of 2016 so far for me.
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - Black APA5.00ExcellentBlack and chewy and hoppy.
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - London Fields Pale Ale4.00GoodA lovely beer, which I really like. But this particular pint just not quite at the peak (still good though).

Mid-evening and most of the usual faces are present.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - London Fields Pale Ale4.00ExceptionalFantastically fresh. Probably in my top-10 of regularly available beers.
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - Bramling Cross Pale Ale4.30ExcellentA fantastic showcase for Bramling Cross hops (as you might expect from a brewer of the quality of Brodie’s) – golden and full of autumn fruit flavours from the hops.

26 Dec 2015 (Stephen Harris)
Lunchtime and there is a good crowd in to watch a Man Utd game on TV. Unfortunately a couple of chaps at the bar were horribly and aggressively drunk – luckily they did not stay long.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - Citra3.10ExcellentA hazy, greenish-gold in colour. Low-alcohol grapefruit juice – but I love it.
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - Black APA5.00ExcellentA very fine beer indeed. I’m not skilled enough to spot how a Black APA differs from a Black IPA.

BeerABVScoreNotes

Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - Aldgate Amber (Special Blend)4.00GoodAmber/brown in colour and well-hopped. I was not able to ascertain what was ‘special’ about it.

The pub is found in Leyton, Greater London, E10 6AE.

Community local in the Bakers Arms area of Leyton, in High Road Leyton, with a large comfortable dark wooden interior. The pub was present here by 1855 and was acquired by Charrington’s Brewery from Truman’s in 1870 – in later years it passed to Ind Coope. It was rebuilt as we know it today in 1897, on a slightly smaller site than its predecessor. Used to be famous for a good selection of Brodie's beer which were brewed in the former stable block to the rear. Sold on and the brewery has been relocated outside London. Refurbished and reopened under new ownership in late-May 2018. Reported late 2022 no long selling real ale. 2023 reported back selling real ale.

We have visited this pub 54 times, seen 131 different beers and tried 82 of them.
