Not that busy but all the 40-somethings (who incidentally all worked in a 1950 cycle factory) walking around on their mobile phones made it seem so.
Wold Top - Anglers Reward Pale Ale | 4.00 | | Fruity and sharp. Last pint from barrel and a bit hazy |
Church End - Stout Coffin | 4.60 | Not Tried
Three Castles - Saxon Archer | 4.00 | Not Tried
Windsor & Eton - Eton Boatman | 4.30 | Not Tried
Liverpool Craft - #56 | 5.40 | Not Tried
Three Castles - Corn Dolly | 4.70 | Not Tried
07 Jun 2013 (Stephen Harris)
Mid-afternoon visit. The pub holds regional ‘Beeriodicals’ in the first week of every month, and my visit coincided with the tail end of a focus on Lakeland breweries. My pen ran out of ink, so notes are a bit sketchy.
Winster Valley - Old School | 3.90
Eden River (formerly Eden) - Fuggle | 3.80 | | The concept of ‘single hop’ beers is now well-established. But Fuggles is an unusual choice. This beer showcased the slightly spicy flavours available from this traditional English hop variety. |
Kendal - Helga's | 3.70 | | Brown beer in the German Dunkel style. |
Hardknott - Infra red | 6.20 | Not Tried
Hawkshead - NZPA | 6.00 | Not Tried
Hawkshead - Dry Stone Stout | 4.50 | Not Tried
Hardknott - Code Black | 5.60 | Not Tried
Cheddar - Goat's Leap | 5.50 | Not Tried
Tirril - Red Barn Bitter | 4.40 | Not Tried
Kirkby Lonsdale - Stanley's | 3.80 | Not Tried
Kendal - Silver Tanner | 4.40 | Not Tried
Lakeland (formerly Stringers) - Hop Priest | 6.50 | Not Tried | Ran out |
23 Jul 2012 (Philip Pirrip)
Very pleased I went here. Bare boards, excellent range of beers and conversation. Evening visit 2150 hours.
Green Jack - Ripper Tripel | 8.50 | | DANGEROUSLY drinkable. After two I was happy that I was sufficiently anaesthetised for open heart surgery! |
Arbor Ales - Old Knobbley | 4.50 | Not Tried
Brentwood - Lumberjack | 5.20 | Not Tried | Replaced the Kingstone |
Cotswold Spring - OSM (Old Sodbury Mild) | 3.90 | Not Tried
Plain Ales - Arty Farty | 3.90 | Not Tried
Hop Union (formerly Great Western (GWB)) - Maiden Voyage | 4.00 | Not Tried
Church End - Sporting Gold | 4.00 | Not Tried
Kingstone - Tewdric's Tipple Ale | 3.80 | Not Tried | Ran out as my pint was being pulled |
12 May 2012 (Martin the Mildman)
Another deflection from mild for a beer I've been after for a while. Busy as ever here and happy hour too.
Two Cocks - 1643 Puritan Stout | 4.30 | | Black stout with a dry roast malt character and a fairly thin mouthfeel. Dry roast finish. My score 15/20. |
Buckingham - Mild | 4.00 | Not Tried
05 Mar 2011 (Martin the Mildman)
Busy late on a Saturday afternoon.
Arbor Ales - Single Hop - Simcoe | 4.00 | | Intense citrus aroma leads to a superb fruity citrus hop flavour. Little malt balance but not really needed in this beer. My score 16/20 with B for quality as served too cold here. |
Exit 33 (formerly The Brew Company then Sky's Edge) - Decanus | 4.20 | | A hoppy, bitter amber beer. Little malty character for balance, leading to a dry, hoppy finish. My score 14/20. |
15 May 2010 (Martin the Mildman)
Busy with a local musician playing in the pub. Friendly service and I was in time for "Happy Hour" with beers at £2.20/pint, cheapest of the day by a long way.
Rhymney - Dark | 4.00 | | Very good dark malty mild with good chocolate and roast malt flavours with a hint of fruit in the finish. My score 16/20. |
