Goacher's - Fine Light Ale

Slightly lacking condition but still had the lovely citrus notes and hoppy character of this wondefull bitter.

I think I arrived just as it opened. The round trip to get here took me about 2 hours and usually I wouldn’t bother doing that unless the pub's well known for quality beer (I’m not saying the Royal Paper Mill doesn’t have a good reputation it’s just that I’ve never heard anyone talking about it). However, this is the only other Goachers tied pub in the world (the other being the Rifle Volunteer in Maidstone) so I didn’t mind taking the time. The inside of the pub was smaller than I thought from the outside and looked in need of a bit of attention. One side of the bar looked like it had suffered shell damage. As I was reading the biro scrawlings above the fireplace who should walk out from the back room with the landlord but Phil Goacher. I overheard him discussing an upcoming refurbishment to the pub so maybe that’s why large chunks of plaster were off the wall. I’m not sure what to make of the pub. The landlady was friendly and the pub does 3 Goachers but at the end of the day I just thought, hey, I’ve been drinking a Goachers beer in a Goachers pub 5 metres from Phil Goacher - so actually, I’m quite happy.

Goacher's - Best Dark Ale (aka Original)
4.10
Although there was a pump clip on a pump for this the landlady went out the back to pour the beer. It was a bit cloudy and tasted a little out of condition with none of the fresh rich Goachers flavours I associate with this beer. It was drinkable but nothing to write home about.
One of three Goacher's tied pubs. The Royal Paper Mill is a traditional out of town pub and is in the heart of the Tovil district in Maidstone. The 'R.P.M.' is what you would call a workmen's pub and has a very lively atmosphere with darts being one of the main attractions.
