Beer festival in progress with a large stillage inside the pub. Numbers swelled by away fans visiting before their match at Selhurst Park.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Ascot - Anastasia's Triple Vanilla Imperial Stout8.00ExceptionalThe sweetness of the vanilla counteracts the strong roast malt and alcohol taste of the base stout to give a smooth and well rounded beer. My score 18/20.
Skinner's - Porthleven4.80GoodGood citrus hop character to this strong pale bitter. Sweetish, fruity citrus finish. My score 15/20.
Elland - Scarlettes Fury4.30GoodPale and smooth tasting with good hop bitterness and a little malt balance. Fruity hop finish. My score 15/20.
Abbeydale - Beer Works Dr Morton's Ancient Grease4.40GoodWell balanced pale bitter with bitterness being the dominant flavour. Some malt balance and a fruity hop finish. My score 15/20.
Kissingate - Smelter's Stout5.10GoodA very roasted malt character to this black stout, but this is rather over dominant, holding back other flavours. My score 15/20
Oakham - Preacher4.30AcceptableDark amber in colour. Hoppy with dry citrus flavours dominating. Little malt character. The finish is quite fruity with citrus notes. My score 14/20.
Vale - Spring Promise3.90AcceptableA dark bitter with a dry, bitter character. Some hoppiness and a very dry finish. My score 14/20.
Exit 33 (formerly The Brew Company then Sky's Edge) - Atomic4.00AcceptableA burnished gold bitter with a dry hoppy character. Dry, bitter finish. My score 14/20.

This pub kicked of a cultural tour of the ELL, stopping off at nearly every station for a pint in a suitable waiting room and it didn't disappoint. Superb range of beers managed by an enthusiastic landlord, who drinks The Purity Gold.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Purity - Pure Gold3.80ExceptionalLight, hoppy and tangy beer served up in perfect condition, the landlord drew the first couple of pints off to clear the lines.

We started the day here because the GBG says that it opens at 11am. It actually opens at 12:00 but in the event it did not matter because our train broke down at Maidstone East and we were late getting here, and did not have too long wait for opening. The landlord seemed really keen on his ales, and we really enjoyed our first visit to this pub.

The pub is found in Crystal Palace, Greater London, SE19 2AA.

Situated just up the hill from Crystal Palace railway station, this street corner pub has had a number of different names over the years. It currently offers a good range of beers, comfortable seating, and bar billiards. There is a stage for regular live music - often including a full jazz band. 12 handpumps on the bar in 3 banks of 4. Ciders on handpump and in boxes in a chilled cabinet behind the bar. Reported in Summer 2014 that J.D. Wetherspoon had purchased the freehold but will not take over the pub's running until the current lease expires although subsequently a planning application from JDW for changes has been made. *** Closed in early November 2017 presumably for the Wetherspoon conversion and re-opening to take place. *** In 2024 announced Wetherspoon had pub the venue up for sale as it is undeveloped.

We have visited this pub 14 times, seen 82 different beers and tried 28 of them.
