Evening until 10.30pm close. Echoingly empty. Feels a little jaded to me in the interregnum prior to Wetherspoon doing whatever it will be doing here. Bit of life just before closing time when some of the barmaids took to a bit of formation dancing on the main floor!
BeerABVScoreNotes
Fallen - Chew Chew6.00Excellent£4.90 pp hurts. Really rich salted caramel milk stout. A half might have been better but I drank just the one pint over half an hour or so

Evening until 11pm close. Barman said he thought final closure date would be 4th December after which Wetherspoon would gut and do their business. Pub was all inventively dolled up for Halloween too. Good to see bottled Worthington White Shield on sale but at £4.60.

Evening. Swing Patrol weekly event with several couples dancing to recorded jazz music. I visit less often now the CAMRA discount has been withdrawn and the Westow House, over the road, still does give a discount.

Evening until close. Chance find that the last knockings of a beer festival was taking place with all real ales £1 pp. These were all on gravity off wooden stillage and all pumpclips on the bar counter handpumps were turned round. Had been 20 beers but only 6 left on offer. Giveaway beer and a superb jazz band playing live. Luxury.

Deep into uncharted South London to meet my friend Kevin here after work. It is a large pub, with a good guest beer policy and a commendable 50p per pint reduction for CAMRA card holders. But it is very quiet on a chilly early Monday evening.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Clarence & Fredericks - Golden Ale3.80ExcellentI’m growing a liking for this full-bodied pale ale.
Franklins - Pudding Stout4.20AcceptableI’m afraid that I have not been greatly impressed by the Franklin’s beers I’ve tried so far. This is a dark beer with a dominant caramel sweetness plus a bit of roasted barley.

The pub is found in Crystal Palace, Greater London, SE19 2AA.

Situated just up the hill from Crystal Palace railway station, this street corner pub has had a number of different names over the years. It currently offers a good range of beers, comfortable seating, and bar billiards. There is a stage for regular live music - often including a full jazz band. 12 handpumps on the bar in 3 banks of 4. Ciders on handpump and in boxes in a chilled cabinet behind the bar. Reported in Summer 2014 that J.D. Wetherspoon had purchased the freehold but will not take over the pub's running until the current lease expires although subsequently a planning application from JDW for changes has been made. *** Closed in early November 2017 presumably for the Wetherspoon conversion and re-opening to take place. *** In 2024 announced Wetherspoon had pub the venue up for sale as it is undeveloped.

We have visited this pub 14 times, seen 82 different beers and tried 28 of them.
