I met up with a good crowd of old friends here, early on Friday evening. The pub soon became very busy indeed and eventually we moved on, visiting a couple of lesser pubs.
Arbor Ales - Oyster Stout | 4.60 | | Very full-flavoured stout. |
Arbor Ales - Artisan | 4.80 | | Copper-coloured, with good balance of malt and hops. |
Moor - Empire Strikes Back | 5.70 | | Pale and yeasty, in an IPA-style. Nice hops. Doesn’t drink to its strength. |
Hanlons (formerly O'Hanlon's) - Goldblade | 4.00 | Not Tried
Adnams - Ghost Ship | 4.50 | Not Tried
Tiny Rebel - Cwtch | 4.60 | Not Tried

Devilfish - The Darkness | 4.50 | | Excellent black porter full of malty flavours including dark chocolate and coffee. Some hop in the background. My score 16/20. |
31 Oct 2012 (Martin the Mildman)
Quite busy mid evneing on a Wednesday.
Arbor Ales - Transpacific | 4.50 | | Hoppy and full bodied pale ale with citrus and tropical fruit notes. Fruity hoppy finish. My score 16/20. |

Crowded to capacity in here between 7 and 8pm.

16 Oct 2012 (Martin the Mildman)
Getting busier as 6pm approached on a Tuesday evening.
Arbor Ales - Single Hop Riwaka | 4.00 | | Very pale and very hoppy with a superb fruity tropical flavour which lingers in the finish. My score 17/20. |
London Fields - Harvest Ale 2012 | 5.50 | | Extremely bitter and hoppy pale strong bitter. A little over the top for me but was receiving favourable comments in the pub. My score 14/20. |
02 Oct 2012 (Martin the Mildman)
Getting busy late afternoon on a Tuesday.
Hardknott - Thank Chinook It's Friday | 4.30 | | A dark bitter, ruby/brown in colour with a good citrus hop character dominating. My score 15/20. |

I was interested to see that in their positive review of this pub, printed on 23 August, The Evening Standard used one of my photos, pinched from this site. I worked hard last night to blag a free round for my group on the strength of the publicity I had provided for them – but the manager was having none of it. A night on the IPAs.
Redemption - Big Chief | 5.50 | | A powerful, hoppy, full-bodied IPA. |
Kernel (The Kernel) - Citra IPA (keg) | 7.20 | | On ‘key keg’ dispense, with minimal carbonation. Good malt, piney, citrusy hop. Quite superb. |
Meantime - India Pale Ale | 7.50 | | On some kind of keg dispense – whether ‘key keg’ or old-time keg I could not tell, but there was a noticeable, low-level carbonation. Indicated as being at 7.4%. Full of hops, quite dry, toffee in the finish. |
Redemption - Trinity | 3.00 | Not Tried
Tiny Rebel - Urban IPA | 5.50 | Not Tried
Devilfish - Stingray | 5.50 | Not Tried
Tiny Rebel - Cwtch | 4.60 | Not Tried
20 Aug 2012 (Stephen Harris)
A reasonable crowd in for a Monday evening.
Swannay (formerly Highland) - Island Hopping | 3.90 | | Gold colour. A lovely hoppy aroma. Intensely bitter hop flavour. |
Buxton - Amoor | 3.90 | | The pub’s own tasting notes say “sweetly malted cocoa”, that seems spot on to me. |
Adnams - Broadside | 4.70 | Not Tried
Redemption - Pale Ale | 3.80 | Not Tried
Buxton - Moor Top | 3.60 | Not Tried
London Fields - Pale Ale | 3.70 | Not Tried

A large crowd here, bordering on euphoria following GB’s triumphs in the Olympic Velodrome. There is now a small downstairs bar with table football and TV.
Oldershaw - Blonde Volupta | 5.00 | | Strong pale ale with plenty of orangey, citrusy hop character. As full bodied as the name suggests. |
Dark Star - Espresso Stout | 4.20 | Not Tried
Dark Star - Summer Meltdown | 4.80 | Not Tried
Adnams - Ghost Ship | 4.50 | Not Tried
Redemption - Trinity | 3.00 | Not Tried

Arbor Ales - Cats & Dogs | 3.80 | | A typically hoppy, amber-coloured beer. |
