About 5pm and food service was officially finished, but the landlord happily made a sausage sandwich for me to take on the train home. Just a few customers in the comfortable saloon bar, a very good atmosphere, I was tempted to stay longer.

Oldershaw - Grantham Dark3.60GoodReddish/brown with a fruity flavour but maltiness a little absent in this sample. Perhaps a little fresh, with a slight haze. My score 15/20.

I needed something to eat, but I did not want the offerings of an expensive gastro pub, so I came in here and had a bowl of chicken stew for £3. I sat in the public bar and wondered why there are not more pubs like this one.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Castle Rock - Harvest Pale3.80ExcellentA good pale beer. Hoppy aroma, and a good session beer.

Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - Hock3.50ExcellentBest sample so far this season. Very little residual hop bitterness, just sweet chocolatey and grainy malt with a little berry fruit. Long malty finish. My score 17/20.

Oldershaw - Grantham Dark3.60GoodSeems to have lost the smokiness it had, now rather dry and malty with a little fruitiness. My score 15/20.

Popped in for a half rather than hang around at the bus stop. Not overly busy but with a good friendly-boozer feel to it.

Popped in for a quick half whilst waiting for the bus back to Tuddington after a minor session at the Fox and Crown in Basford.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Castle Rock - Nottingham Gold3.70GoodHoppy session beer - light but with a decent body to the flavour too. Not great but not at all bad.

The pub is found in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, NG1 7HB.

A 1950s built 2 roomed pub with coloured tiled lower frontage which is found near the central bus station with frontage on a busy ring road. Often not as busy as it should be due to its proximity to The Vat and Fiddle - but this is not to denigrate it. Indeed, some might prefer its less busy and more relaxed atmosphere. 11 handpumps with 6 in the right hand bar and 5 in the left hand one. A Castle Rock tenanted house, it gives a card carrying CAMRA members' price discount and runs its own loyalty card scheme.

We have visited this pub 18 times, seen 31 different beers and tried 15 of them.
