05 Mar 2015 (McGargle)
Pleasantly busy. Top quality knowledgeable service.
Beavertown - Black Betty | 7.40 | | Thought Stone Sublimey...was good? This is better. Fresher, upfront. |
Stone - Sublime Self Righteous Ale Black IPA - Craft | 8.70 | | Still the yardstick for others. Smooth, hugely flavoured, disguised strength. And then came a Beavertown beer and this got knocked back to 'Good'. |
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - Black Cab Stout | 4.20 | | Lacking body and 'roastiness'. |
19 Feb 2015 (McGargle)
Mostly an older audience.
Stone - Double Bastard (keg) | 11.20 | | Lives up to its 'Mutha of a beer' tag. Strong indeed but supremely judged. |
22 Jan 2015 (McGargle)
Terrific beer board. 24 tasty taps
Northern Monk - Dark Arches Black IPA | 6.70 | | |
30 Dec 2014 (McGargle)
Great service as usual. Did note that the bottled Alesmith IPA has nearly doubled in price.
Siren Craft - Rule of Thirds | 6.40 | | Collaboration with Beavertown and Magic Rock produced a classic US style IPA - hop profile just to my taste and just enough sweetness from the malts. 5*?? (Keg.) |
Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Saint Petersburg Imperial Russian Stout | 7.40 | | Expected more but, and I thought I'd never say this,it was a trifle bland! (Keg.) |
Firebrand - Double IPA | 7.50 | | Thin and muddled - brewer's art not noticeable. (Keg.) |
06 Dec 2014 (McGargle)
Very busy but the bottled beer list was hopelessly out of date. No excuse in the days of POS scanning and home laminators.
Yeastie Boys - Gunnamatta | 6.50 | | This was Yeastie Boys' own version of the Adnams brew which had so impressed at a previous Wetherspoon's festival. Nothing like so good. No finesse, no tea, slightly flat. Uninspiring (keg). |
28 Aug 2014 (McGargle)
Busy. Mostly casual suits.
Alpha State - Smoked Saison | 7.00 | | Weird one. At times great but overall too much going on. Needs to be toned down. |
20 Aug 2014 (McGargle)
Arrogant Bastard £12 a bottle!! Silly money.
Burning Sky - Devil's Rest IPA | 7.00 | | Full on IPA. Really liked the malt base. (Keg)
|
14 Aug 2014 (McGargle)
Quietish.
Salopian - Sentinel | 8.40 | | Collaboration with Celt Experience. Bold DIPA. Keg. |
31 Jul 2014 (McGargle)
Pleased to see that it was busy. Excellent beer range and knowledgable staff.
Siren Craft - Limoncello IPA | 9.00 | | Brave beer with the freshness of citrus zest shining through. |
09 Jan 2014 (McGargle)
Again really quiet.
Moor - Old Freddy Walker | 7.30 | | A 'new' take on an Old Ale. Very solid body, tastes of autumn fruits and enough hops to keep it clean. (Key keg) |
Lagunitas - IPA (keg) | 6.20 | | Poured with a foaming white head. Solid but less hoppy than expected. |
Kernel (The Kernel) - Citra Centenial Amarillo IPA | 7.20 | | This was OK but lacked the presence that you come to expect from Kernel beers. |
