Tasting Summary

These comments are the opinion of the individual reviewer and represent what they thought of the beer on a particular day in a particular pub. If a review is less favourable, it may be because the beer suffered somewhere in the supply chain between them and the brewery.

Philip PirripGood13 Sep 2024 Fully bodied and tarry. Loses half a mark for dispense through the duff 6th handpump, meaning I needed to multiple decant between two pint glasses to add faux condition
Philip PirripAcceptable14 Oct 2023 All the taste was there but not any condition, head or lacing so making for a lack of mouthfeel. Poured and stayed totally flat in the glass

McGargleExcellent09 Jan 2014 A 'new' take on an Old Ale. Very solid body, tastes of autumn fruits and enough hops to keep it clean. (Key keg)

AndrewPoor06 Apr 2007 What rubbish. Black porter but with poor construction that resembled alcohol in ditch water
IanAcceptable06 Apr 2007 I finished off Andrew's half as he didn't like it. Not as cultured as the first time I had it at Maidstone BF in 2005. Maybe needed another day or so to settle down and open up. Malts were a bit in your face and slightly sour.

IanExcellent03 Sep 2005 Black colour beige head. Choc/coffee/liquorice aromas, good in mouth with drying finish and some dark fruit. Good strong dark beer which doesn’t allow the strength to over run it.
