Mid-evening. Less crowded than I was expecting and I was able to find a stool at the bar. Always an interesting beer selection in here, for those willing to look beyond cask format.
Kiuchi - Hitachino Nest White Ale | 5.50 | | Having read about this beer a while ago I have ben half looking out for it ever since, so pleased to get my chance tonight. It is a Witbier in the Belgian style; turbid yellow in colour. Full of juicy orange/citrus flavours and a good yeast presence. Some nice hop flavours too – Styrian Goldings according to the label. I did think about five stars but will go with four. |

Very busy here in the mid-evening, with plenty of people sitting outside despite the plunging temperatures.
Magic Rock - Ginspired | 6.40 | | On keg dispense. A collaboration brew with Siren Craft. Golden, dry and bitter. Flavoured with gin botanicals, but this is an IPA style, rather than a ‘Gin Saison’. |
Stillwater - Brontide | 5.00 | | On keg dispense. Near black in colour. A very good, Belgian Dubbel-style beer. Authentic Belgian yeast tastes. Warming and dry, coffee and cocoa. |

I can’t help noticing that this bar/pub seems to be on all of the ‘Top 10 Bars in London’-type lists published recently. Despite this, it is quieter here than I have seen it before, on a Sunday evening.
Ægir - Beaver | 8.00 | | On keg dispense; a collaboration beer with Tottenham’s Beavertown Brewery. Seemed to be gold or amber in colour (but very low light levels here). A very strong, hop-filled Wheat Beer. Superb. |
Sierra Nevada - Hop Hunter IPA | 6.20 | | Golden and hoppy. Clean and dry, with a long, bitter finish. |

It is the opening night of the excellent London Beer City week and one of the two launch parties is here. The place is absolutely rammed in the mid-evening. The pub has excelled itself with its key-keg range tonight and it is hard to make a choice from the 20 or so available.
Kernel (The Kernel) - Imperial Brown Stout 1856 (Tormore & Port Dundas) | 10.20 | | From key-keg. So thick it was in danger of forming a skin on top. Fabulous whisky barrel tastes from barrel-maturation, fabulous warming alcohol. One of the very best. |
Siren Craft - Broken Dream in Speyside Barrels | 7.40 | | From key-keg. Black. Lots of woody dryness from barrel-maturation. High alcohol. Chocolaty Stout flavours mostly in aftertaste. |
Fourpure - London Beer City Summer Pale Ale | 4.30 | | From key-keg. The special beer brewed for this week’s festival. It is a cloudy, golden/yellow Pale Ale. Hop-filled, fresh, zesty and lovely. |
Brewfist - Space Frontier | 6.50 | | From key-keg. A collaboration beer with To Øl. A golden beer in rather flat condition. It is described as a ‘Grape IPA’ and is dry and winey. Unusual, unique maybe. |

It is Beer Day Britain and Mother Kelly’s contribution is to host the launch of a Beavertown / Wild Beer collaboration brew. Loads of people here for the event, including top brass from both breweries. Enjoyable time, although I’m keen not to work too far down the beer list on a Monday evening.
Beavertown - Yuzilla Phantom | 4.50 | | On key-keg dispense. An extraordinary beer. Cloudy pale yellow in colour. A friend (blogger The Half Pint Gentleman) described it as “Fanta Limon on steroids”. I cannot better that description. I thought it was gorgeous; many more traditional beer drinkers would have been penning angry letters to What’s Brewing should they have come across it. |
Beavertown - Blubus Maximus | 5.50 | | On key-keg dispense. A collaboration beer with Wild Beer. This beer is an alarming blueish-purple in colour. A fruit beer, packed with blueberries and soured with brett. Wonderfully tasty and refreshing. |

Tonight’s London Beer City event here is a murder mystery session, hosted by Siren Craft Brewery, and I have to pick my way past a fresh corpse and a host of babbling participants to get to the bar.
Siren Craft - Middle Finger Discount IPA | 7.20 | | On keg dispense. Strong, hoppy, amber IPA in US style. |
Siren Craft - 10 Toe Discount IPA | 7.20 | | On keg dispense. Strong, hoppy, amber IPA in US style. Subtly different from the Middle Finger Discount in a way that is beyond my descriptive powers. |

I had forgotten that there was a whole week of sour beers on here, until I saw the crowd outside as I was passing on the bus – time to jump off for a couple of quick ones. About 10 sour beers on keg.
Howling Hops (Former brewery at Cock Tavern) - Gose | 5.50 | | On keg dispense. Pale gold and hazy. It’s 10 years since I tasted Gose in Leipzig (amazingly, Gazza’s ‘Scoopergen’ website still holds my write-up). From that distant memory I reckon this is a very authentic Gose, even down to the slightly salty taste. It is probably even more fully-flavoured than the real thing. |
Magic Rock - Circus of Sour | 3.50 | | On keg dispense. Pale gold and hazy. Lip-puckeringly sour and dry. Slightly woody from maturation in a white wine cask. |

A very pleasant, if rather pricey, new bar. A second bar and four restaurants will soon be opening in nearby railway arches as this area is developed, and the Redchurch Brewery is just yards away too.
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - Belgian Pale Ale (Chardonnay-aged) | 5.00 | | On keg dispense. A very complex, golden, cloudy beer. Brett sourness and woody dryness dominate. Even better than last time I tried it – probably worth 5 stars really. |
Beavertown - Black Yeti India Stout | 5.60 | | On keg dispense. A full-flavoured, rich, black Stout with lots of hops. Have Beavertown ever brewed a duff beer? |
