I needed to post a letter, and I asked Andy at the Montefiore for directions to the nearest Post Office, he replied it is next door to the Brown Jug. I posted my letter and decided to pop in to the pub, it appeared closed and I almost gave up, but the door to the garden was open, and I entered that way. Apparently the front door is a bit stiff, and I thought it was locked. There were no other customers, and I had a good chat with Jenny.

Greene King - Bonkers Conkers4.10GoodJenny informed me that she had this down in the cellar waiting to go on, and offered to pour me a pint from the cask. I think Greene King beers are better served by gravity, and it certainly seemed to be the case with this pint. Fruity and biscuity.

Nothing much has changed here since I first sat in the garden as a child while my Dad enjoyed a pint inside. I now visit this pub using my 'bus pass, Jenny is still behind the bar, but alas, the Cobb's beers are long gone.

What a great little pub. It has the feel of someone's house with books and magazines spilling over the floor. The side room had half packed boxes sitting on one of the tables and the pub dog was wandering around. The rear room contained all the customers so we sat there. The walls were covered in paintings, jugs and mirrors. The room was fairly dark but that was due to the plants growing up the windows.

Greene King - Hardys & Hansons Olde Trip4.30AcceptableHardy Hanson Olde Trip. Big malt bite with base-bitter background. Lots of harsh malt (marmite) on the finish. Not really my kind of beer
