Quiet market day afternoon / early evening.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Oakham - Bishops Farewell4.60ExcellentGreat example of this top beer.
Butcombe - Rare Breed (or Adam Henson's Rare Breed)3.80ExcellentCrackingly good English bitter, refreshing with a sharp finish. Malt and hops in good balance. Good condition and presentation.
Salopian - Free Fall (previously seen at 3.8%)3.60GoodRefreshing golden session ale, excellent condition and presentation.
16 Apr 2017 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
Peaceful Sunday afternoon spent in good company.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Brass Castle - Session Mini-IPA (was 3.5%)3.60GoodI sometimes wonder if my palate is different to every body else's. I found this beer had a powerful smoky and peppery taste and a good clean bitter finish. Excellent at 3.5%.
Blackjack - Devilfish5.00GoodAn overpowering aroma of pencil sharpenings. An arty / farty new style of beer that doesn't really work for me. Certainly pale and with a light orangey / citrus flavour. Undoubtedly it will be a great success.
15 Apr 2017 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
I think everybody has gone away for their Easter break. Quite quiet for a Saturday evening.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Crouch Vale - Citra3.90GoodExactly what it says on the tin - a quality citra ale.
Salopian - Chicane4.10GoodTypically Salopian.
Mad Dog - Stouty McStoutface4.50GoodNot a stout fan, usually far too heavy and full on for me. This however was quite light on the palate and consequently enjoyable.
14 Apr 2017 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
A busy Easter Good Friday spent with good company.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Castle Rock - Preservation Fine Ale4.40GoodA chestnut coloured Midland's style bitter with a semi dry finish.
Rowton - Area 515.10GoodA strong, citra type ale. A bit too resinous for me. Nevertheless, good body, good condition and well presented.
08 Apr 2017 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
Gets busier and busier each weekend.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Oakham - The Hare and the Hedgehog3.90GoodFirst tried this four years ago and I haven't changed my opinion - another Oakham ale!
Castle Rock - Thompson's Cave Battle of Arras4.00GoodAn OK brown beer.
07 Apr 2017 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
Lots of things going on, very busy. Good to see.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Blackjack - Mosaic Light3.60ExcellentPlenty of flavour in this low abv beer.
Salopian - Freeze Frame4.80ExcellentTypically Salopian but a surprise in the aftertaste with some mandarin and caramel hints.
05 Apr 2017 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
Pleasant two or three pints in good company.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Oakham - Bishops Farewell4.60ExcellentAn excellent example of this favourite Oakham ale.
Blackjack - Bramling Cross4.00ExcellentDescribed as an English bitter. I would say an English bitter plus some good berry and chocolate / coffee flavours. Not over complex, good body and balance.
Black Brook - Slinky3.50GoodPlenty of flavour in this unfined, 3.5% beer. Usual good presentation and condition.
01 Apr 2017 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
Unfortunately only a quick visit, nevertheless good company and friendly banter.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Oakham - Citra4.20ExcellentStill at the top of its game. Excellent condition and presentation.
Mad Dog - Now in a Minute4.20ExcellentA classic and very good red ale.
31 Mar 2017 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
Busy Friday evening.

Black Brook - Mt. Hood4.10GoodAmerican session IPA? Unfined and hazy. Not sure what to make of this.
Pig & Porter - Strong Pale No. 25.20GoodStrong, pale and uninspiring.
27 Mar 2017 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
Peaceful late afternoon.
BeerABVScoreNotes
