04 Aug 2013 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
Quiet, peaceful Sunday afternoon.
BeerABVScoreNotes
McGivern Ales - Bridge Pale3.90ExcellentIf in doubt, this is always a good choice.
Great Orme - Cambria3.80GoodCrisp, fresh and in great condition. A little low on flavour.
Liverpool Craft - #565.40GoodGreat condition and well presented. Strength was obvious but there was not much flavour.
28 Jul 2013 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
Bluesy type solo musician in the beer garden, great accompaniment to some good beers. Pleasant and relaxing couple of hours, as always.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Weetwood - Best Bitter3.80GoodTraditional session bitter.
Offbeat - Quirky Kiwi NZ Pale4.60GoodVery soft and mellow flavours that were indistinctive and seemed to blend with each other. Nevertheless, I enjoyed it.
Happy Valley - Small & Mighty3.60GoodCrisp and fresh, lots of hoppiness and all at 3.6%.
17 Jul 2013 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
In at early doors, sat in the quiet room and had a raed and a relax following 18 holes in the sweltering heat.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Tiny Rebel - FUBAR4.40GoodMore of a golden ale but tasty malts and hops in balance and with good body. Good condition and presentation.
Harbour - Light Ale3.70GoodA delightfully light and delicate beer with good aromatic hops and well balanced malt. Refreshing and much needed in this hot weather.
Big Hand - First Hand Amber Ale4.20GoodA well balanced, slightly nutty amber ale.
07 Jul 2013 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
Glorious day for those in the beer garden, a few of us watching the tennis inside in the cool. Super couple of hours after an exerting round of golf.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Merlin - The Wizard4.20ExcellentBordering on exceptional. This beer is superb and consistent on each and every occasion. Great condition and well presented this is always a beer to look out for. Top notch.
McGivern Ales - Bridge Pale3.90ExcellentThis was my take out. Stunningly good, consistent and so much flavour.
Conwy (Bragdy Conwy) - Minera Mountain Ale4.00GoodMiddle of the road in every respect.
Sandstone - Citrine6.30GoodWent straight in with this, had no idea it was so strong. I'll read the labels in future. In hindsight it did taste quite powerful.
04 Jul 2013 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
A peaceful and gentle end to a busy day.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Tiny Rebel - Cwtch4.60ExcellentThis really is a top beer. A multitude of pleasing flavours that blend and balance well. Great condition.
Inveralmond - Tight Head Ale4.20GoodA pale ale with an initial rush of fruit and a good bitter finish.
Conwy (Bragdy Conwy) - Celebration Ale4.20AcceptableGiven the damning comments made by other contributors, I was curious to try this beer safe in the knowledge that it would be in top condition. It was in great condition and well presented but the beer was a thin, brown ale with little taste to remark on. However it was crisp and fresh.
02 Jul 2013 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
What a delightful contrast to our miserable summer. Pleasant couple of hours supping, chatting and reading.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Tatton - Tatton Best4.20ExcellentIt was hoppy, soapy, semi dry, orangey and malty. The result was superb.
Monty's - Moonrise4.00GoodA decent malty bitter.
Old School (OSB) - Textbook3.90GoodPale ale, OK but nothing special.
30 Jun 2013 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
Haven't been in for a fortnight, missed it!
BeerABVScoreNotes
McGivern Ales - Bridge Pale3.90ExcellentBordering on excellent. Consistently good and a must if available.
Kelham Island (probably brewed by Thornbridge now) - Easy Rider4.30GoodSo difficult to find a good example of this beer - this was good. Nevertheless, there are so many good beers of this genre around, it takes that special something to elevate it to a higher level. Great condition and presentation but there are better beers of this type around.
Toolmakers - Razmataz4.20GoodSoft mouth feel but the flavours were a little muddled.
16 Jun 2013 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
Sat outside with the doggy - oh yes - and the wife. Lots of other people with the same idea.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Atomic - Fission3.90ExcellentReally enjoyed this no nonsense bitter. Nothing outrageous but great condition and presentation.
Weetwood - Eastgate Ale4.20GoodAlways a good choice, consistent and pleasant, complex, malty, semi dry bitter.
Tring - Mansion Mild3.70GoodStandard mild.
Brimstage - Scarecrow4.20GoodNutty and malty, a good combination.
02 Jun 2013 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
Nice to relax in the beer garden after a game of golf.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hackney - Golden Ale4.00GoodA full bodied golden ale.
Shiny - Spinning Top4.00GoodRun of the mill beer. Great condition and well presented.
Burton Bridge - Stairway To Heaven5.00AcceptableExpected much more - in my opinion 'disappointing'. Condition and presentation was flawless.
