Early evening – just got here before the tube strike started. A welcome development from the London Brewers Markets is a series of Tap Takeovers in the days running up to the main event at Old Spitalfields. The White Hart is hosting one such event tonight with a good range of London-brewed beers on key-keg and cask. In addition to those listed, there was beer on the bar from Orbit, Beavertown and Pressure Drop.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hammerton - Penton (or Pentonville Oyster Stout)5.30ExcellentNice to see in cask. An excellent Oyster Stout – just the right balance of dryness and bite.
Partizan - Raspberry & Lemon Saison4.00ExcellentOn key-keg. Pink in colour and thickly cloudy. Tastes more like a fruit smoothie than a beer. Fruit content must be very high.
Hackney - Raspberry Wheat Beer5.00GoodOn keg dispense of some kind. Orangey-pink in colour and cloudy. Nice raspberry flavours, but a bit too highly-carbonated for me to score ‘excellent’.

Early evening after work and relatively quiet in here.
BeerABVScoreNotes
One Mile End Brew Co. (formerly Mulligans at the White Hart and then WH Brew Pub) - Ancho Cocoa Stout6.40GoodA very dark and strong, coffee/cocoa-tasting Porter/Stout. Also has chili, which is imperceptible at the start but builds up over the pint. Let down a bit by flat condition.

There are a crazy number of beer events on in London tonight and it is hard to choose where to go. I come here for the party to celebrate the 100th brew by the One Mile End Brewery since it took over the premises vacated by the short-lived Mulligans/WH Brew Pub venture. There is a special 100th brew beer, but at £10 a bottle I give it a miss.
BeerABVScoreNotes
One Mile End Brew Co. (formerly Mulligans at the White Hart and then WH Brew Pub) - Rye IPA5.20ExcellentVery tasty, slightly sweet IPA with a rye burn.
One Mile End Brew Co. (formerly Mulligans at the White Hart and then WH Brew Pub) - Blood Orange Wheat DIPA7.40ExcellentOn key-keg. Wow!
One Mile End Brew Co. (formerly Mulligans at the White Hart and then WH Brew Pub) - Barel Aged Black Sour7.00GoodOn key-keg dispense and a bit flat. A strange one. Dark, malty, sour, woody.

For those of us who remember this pub in its 1980s heyday, and the long decline that followed, it is so good to see it once again thriving. Packed this-evening.
BeerABVScoreNotes
One Mile End Brew Co. (formerly Mulligans at the White Hart and then WH Brew Pub) - Holy Mountain IPA6.30ExcellentFrom a key-keg. A high quality, strong, US-style IPA.
One Mile End Brew Co. (formerly Mulligans at the White Hart and then WH Brew Pub) - Farmhouse Pilsner6.40GoodA very unusual beer indeed.
One Mile End Brew Co. (formerly Mulligans at the White Hart and then WH Brew Pub) - Rye IPA5.20AcceptableNot a patch on the last time I drank this. Odd, jarring flavours. It was taken off sale soon afterwards – presumably we had the last two out

One Mile End Brew Co. (formerly Mulligans at the White Hart and then WH Brew Pub) - Rye Mild3.80ExcellentThis is really nice – a dark, slightly sweet Mild, enlivened by the throat-tingling spiciness of rye.
One Mile End Brew Co. (formerly Mulligans at the White Hart and then WH Brew Pub) - Rye IPA5.20ExcellentDeep amber, approaching brown in colour. Slightly sweet, hoppy, rye beer.

Quick visit after work. I’m usually the first to grumble at any mention even of Christmas before mid-December, but managed to order accidentally a ‘Christmas’ beer here and quite like it. I really should pay more attention to the clues in a beer’s name, rather than just ordering by strength.
BeerABVScoreNotes

I had read Stephen Harris's review and noted that the brewery has had a change of name, so I decided to pay a visit. There was some Russian Imperial Stout ageing in Bourbon barrels, and this should be on sale by Christmas, however I expect that this will be on keg dispense.

Tonight sees the official Launch Party for One Mile End Brewery, who took over the brewing operation here in early August. The pub is packed. I think there were 13 different beers available across key-keg and cask formats, with most of the one-offs in keg. Both the beer and the free food are excellent.
BeerABVScoreNotes
One Mile End Brew Co. (formerly Mulligans at the White Hart and then WH Brew Pub) - Pumpkin Pie PA4.20ExcellentAmber-coloured, mellow and spicy.
One Mile End Brew Co. (formerly Mulligans at the White Hart and then WH Brew Pub) - Snakes Alive DIPA7.80ExcellentOn ‘keg’ dispense. A serious Double IPA
One Mile End Brew Co. (formerly Mulligans at the White Hart and then WH Brew Pub) - Mirabelle & Calvados Saison6.00ExcellentOn ‘keg’ dispense. Superb, barrel-aged Saison.

One Mile End Brew Co. (formerly Mulligans at the White Hart and then WH Brew Pub) - Dry-hopped Belgian Red Rye6.00ExcellentOn ‘keg’ dispense. A hazy amber colour. My favourite of the evening.

Busy in the early to mid-evening. Just two cask beers on today. I think I am here for the start of a CAMRA Pub Crawl. Realise after a while that I am in the wrong White Hart (they’re at the one in Aldgate), but decide to stay here anyway as the beer is on very good form.

The pub is found in Whitechapel, Greater London, E1 4TP.

This pub was present at the London end of Mile End Road as early as 1750. It was rebuilt in its present form in around 1900 and is a striking building with a cupola high above the corner door. In the 1970s and 1980s it was the principle pub of the small Murphy’s chain of East End pubs, owned by a family of that name. This pub in particular became known simply as ‘Murphy’s’, and the White Hart name was forgotten for a while. It was notorious for its late night lock-ins, and a tap on the side door in the early hours was usually rewarded by the chance of a sly late one. At this time the pub retained superb etched-glass partitions and mirrors. All that was swept away some time in the late-1990s in a controversial refurbishment that left the pub with a large, open-plan, wooden-floored main bar and a function room upstairs. Further refurbishment came in 2013, and this saw the introduction of an open view kitchen and a micro-brewery in the cellar. Brewing was initially in-house, with beers sold variously as Mulligans at the White Hart or as WH Brew Pub. This brewing venture met with mixed success and in August 2014 the new One Mile End Brewery took over the kit and was immediately successful with its full-flavoured brews. The brewery quickly outgrew the premises and, in the summer of 2016, relocated to Tottenham. 6 handpumps on the bar counter. In September 2022 the pub passed to McMullen.

We have visited this pub 53 times, seen 117 different beers and tried 73 of them.
