25 Feb 2012 (Martin the Mildman)
Good atmosphere in here with a mix of locals and visitors. Bar billiards as popular as ever.
Buffy's - Mild | 4.20 | | Dark brown mild with some bitterness from chocolate malt. Rather dry finish. My score 14/20. |
18 Feb 2011 (Martin the Mildman)
Winter's - Mild | 3.60 | | Fresh on and in top condition. Low hop rate and gentle sweet, chocolatey maltiness make this a sublime quaffable black mild. My score 16/20. |
Brandon - Old Rodney | 4.00 | | A malty bitter with sweetish biscuity malt and just a little hop in the finish. My score 15/20. |
13 Feb 2010 (Martin the Mildman)
Tipple's - The Hanged Monk | 3.80 | | Dark brown mild with lots of coffee malt flavour. Low hop character allows the roasted and chocolate malt flavours to dominate through to the finish. My score 16/20. |
Humpty Dumpty - Swing Bridge Stout | 4.10 | | Very good stout with a strong roast malt flavour. Lots of flavour and body for its strength. My score 16/20. |
27 Oct 2009 (Martin the Mildman)
Busy with post-beer festival goers on a Tuesday afternoon.
Norfolk Square - B52 | 4.80 | | Very malty with a big, biscuity malt kick. Good balance of hoppiness as well, leading to a dry finish. My score 15/20. |

If I come back to Norwich, this would be a definite on the re-visit list. On the same road as Ribs of Beef, just a bit further out of town. Central 2 bars serve small front room and larger rear room. Bar billiards can be played. Beers on 9 handpumps as well as a small stillage. Pub uses lined glasses and has a selection of European and world beers in bottle. No music, no fruit machines.
Spectrum - Blinder | 8.50 | | Copper, with lasting off white head. Wonderful blend of malty sugar and this fantastic hop on the finish, huge grapefruit sherbert. Candied orange peel aroma. Never too syrupy in mouth, rather more candied orange peel and hop. Slightly juicy. Little bit of candy sugar. Does make me happy though. Good condition. |
Tring - Dr Gold Finger | 4.40 | | Pale gold, thin white head. It's a light hoppy citrus beer, tingly sherbert, but a better undrlying structure than most blonde beers. Enormously drinkable. |
Mauldons - Pickwick Bitter | 4.20 | | Copper, lasting beige head. Bit of toast. Like a toasty best bitter. Pretty decent best bitter, nothing spectacular, but cold drink a lot of it. |
Winter's - KHB (Kings Head Bitter - house ale) | 3.70 | | House beer. Deep gold with thin off white head. Decent in mouth. Good citrus flavours. Decent aroma of hops. Good session beer with a good hoppy finish. |
