02 Nov 2018 (Magnus Greel)
Noisy more riotous than expected for a suburban pub on a Friday evening, mostly folk drinking I didn't notice any diners. We found a table by the window and enjoyed a couple of pre curry beers. Despite this the bar staff were on the ball and we were served promptly each time. Impressive beer range here tonight which I wasn't expecting.
Marston's - Pedigree | 4.50 | | Excellent condition with all the toffee bitterness prevalent. |
Marston's - Wychwood Hobgoblin IPA (was Ruby Beer, was Hobgoblin) | 4.50 | Not Tried
01 Sep 2018 (Magnus Greel)
Early evening busy with mostly younger folk, the two bar staff struggled to cope hence extended waiting time at the bar. I was impressed with the beer range on offer.
Marston's - Pedigree | 4.50 | | Spoilt for choice I opted for this, luckily it was in excellent condition. |
Banks's - Amber (was Amber Bitter) | 3.80 | Not Tried
09 Jun 2018 (Magnus Greel)
I fancied a poor choice of national bland beers and I wasn't disappointed, George has been his usual Generous self with the beer range on this busy mid Saturday evening visit.
Marston's - Pedigree | 4.50 | | Acidic twang detracted from the usual flavours. |
Marston's - Wychwood Hobgoblin IPA (was Ruby Beer, was Hobgoblin) | 4.50 | | Rich plummy chewy and syrupy ale |
17 Mar 2018 (Magnus Greel)
Mid evening and busy mainly with drinkers, some accompanied by a few boisterous children who luckily departed not long after our arrival. Usual unexciting beer range on offer.
Marston's - Pedigree | 4.50
Eagle (formerly Wells & Young's, formerly Charles Wells, formerly Wells) - Bombardier (was Bombardier Glorious English) (use Eagle entry now please) | 4.10 | | Spot on condition and temperature, subtle flavours coming through eventually. |
Banks's - Amber (was Amber Bitter) | 3.80
20 Jan 2018 (Magnus Greel)
Mid evening and very busy just a couple of tables free so we grabbed one in the lounge area alongside the entrance.
Banks's - Amber (was Amber Bitter) | 3.80 | | Crisp clear with a slight vanilla aftertaste. |
Brakspear (at Marston's Wychwood) - Bitter | 3.40 | | Nice hoppy bitter bite to this, missed 4* as served rather cold. |
Marston's - Pedigree | 4.50 | Not Tried
Jennings (since closure now brewed at Marston's) - Cocker Hoop (aka September Ale) | 4.60 | Not Tried
02 Nov 2017 (Magnus Greel)
Late evening and very busy with both drinkers and diners. We managed to find a free table by the window. Disappointing beer range here tonight.
Banks's - Amber (was Amber Bitter) | 3.80 | | Flat cold and tasteless. Hopefully not the start of a continuing trend here. |
Marston's - Pedigree | 4.50 | Not Tried
29 Aug 2017 (Magnus Greel)
Mid evening and fairly quiet, a couple of groups dining and a few outside enjoying a balmy humid evening.
Brakspear (at Marston's Wychwood) - Bitter | 3.40 | | At last, something different and in top form too. |
Marston's - Pedigree | 4.50 | Not Tried
Banks's - Amber (was Amber Bitter) | 3.80 | Not Tried
16 Aug 2017 (Magnus Greel)
Mid evening and fairly busy by the bar, we had our pick of tables so opted for one by a welcome open window on a warm sunny evening. Since last year's refurb Marston's seem to have given up on offering customers a wider choice of beers.
Marston's - Pedigree | 4.50 | | Excellent condition compared to my last visit. The first pint didn't touch the sides! |
Jennings (since closure now brewed at Marston's) - Cocker Hoop (aka September Ale) | 4.60 | Not Tried
05 Aug 2017 (Magnus Greel)
Mid evening and fairly busy with drinkers and diners, a fair amount of tables reserved for later groups. The exciting beer range tonight caught me by surprise I must admit.
Banks's - Amber (was Amber Bitter) | 3.80 | | In as good condition as expected however not eyebrow raising. |
Marston's - Pedigree | 4.50 | | Tired and lacklustre, lacking it's usual liveliness. |
Jennings (since closure now brewed at Marston's) - Cocker Hoop (aka September Ale) | 4.60 | Not Tried
