Brunswick - Black Sabbath6.00ExcellentBlack strong mild with full bodied malt flavour and chocolate and toffee notes. Low hop rate and a little fruit in the finish. My score 16/20.

My final stop on this great day out to Ripley. This place was heaving compared to the Alex' next door, as the pubs annual beer festival was in full swing! Alas, with only 15 minutes before my train departed south, only one ale was sampled from a huge selection of new types on offer? A "must do" when in Derby. FYI, I've listed all the festival ales.

Brunswick - Grillsy's Re-Restoration4.40Not TriedA new ale. Notes; Another beer that is inspired by the legend that is Grillsy. Except this time, we got it right! Pale, full bodied and crsip.
10 Sep 2010 (Martin the Mildman)
Very busy early Friday evening.
BeerABVScoreNotes

Surprisingly busy on a Saturday afternoon, mainly with sports fans watching matches on TV.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Spitting Feathers - Cestrian Chester Northgate Ale4.90ExcellentGolden ale brewed to recreate an old brewery of the Chester area. Very good malt character and good hoppy balance. My score 16/20.

01 Sep 2009 (Dubbel)
Stopped off in Derby on the way home from visiting the Thornbridge brewery. Friendly locals and a wealth of homebrewed goodies on offer.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Brunswick - Railway Porter4.30ExcellentGlorious porter. Sweet & bitter simultaneously. Great stuff.
Brunswick - Triple Hop4.00GoodDecent sessionable light bitter. Friendly on the palate if nothing spectacular.

BeerABVScoreNotes
Brunswick - Coppernob4.50AcceptableQuite bitter and hoppy copper coloured beer. My score 14/20.
14 Jul 2009 (Ian)
Last pub on the crawl and for the interior, probably the best. Not overly impressed with the house beers as proved by the fact that my last beer here was Budvar Budweiser.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Brunswick - Black Sabbath6.00AcceptableBlack, ruby with dark brown edges. That's not bad, bit of charcoal, roastiness, it's got some liquorice, it's fine.
Brunswick - Triple Hop4.00PoorGold/orange colour with thin off white head. Some biscuit, some syrup, some condition. It’s got a bit of popcorn, not quite right. Called Triple Hop, so must have around 3 hop flowers put into it. Bit of butter on finish. Not for me.

The pub is found in Derby, Derbyshire, DE1 2RU.

Lovely pub that was part of the original Midland Railway village. Flat iron building 5 minutes walk from Derby railway station. Multiple rooms. Real red leather seats. Brewery at rear with lots of railway and pub memorabilia on walls. Home of the Brunswick Brewery which is managed separately from the pub. A long standing licensee here retired in early 2013. Real ale price discount for card carrying CAMRA members. 16 handpumps in total in banks of 6, 5 & 5. The two banks of 5 have (at Spring 2014) been fitted with dual outlet nozzles for each pump - 1 with a swan's neck and sparkler and the other with a straight tap with a screw fitting for an optional sparkler. The units were manufactured by CFBS (Colin Farrar Brewery Services of Keighley). There are also 3 handpumps in the upstairs function room.

We have visited this pub 39 times, seen 151 different beers and tried 34 of them.
