What a great pub - went up with some of the guys from the band for one and ended up staying for three. Was all excited as we arrived 'cause I hadn't been in since Friday and couldn't wait to see what new beers were on - and I wasn't let down. Despite being extremely busy because the Liverpool match was just finishing, the service was still friendly as ever - so nice being greeted by name by the bar staff.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Harviestoun - Bitter & Twisted3.80ExcellentAlthough still an excellent ale, quite tasteless when sampled straight after the Carronade. Had to have a pint just to compare it.
Tryst - Carronade IPA4.20ExcellentAmazing flavour. Grapefruity and stays with you for ages. If I have it this good again, I'll have to give it an "exceptional".
Harviestoun - Old Engine Oil6.00ExcellentBeen meaning to try this and it was excellent. Really chocolatey with slightly hoppy and almost brandy like flavour coming through.

Ewan MacFarlane of Grim Northern Social was playing live. It got quite busy and he went down well - quite a few folks had obviously come out specially for the music as it emptied out quite quickly when he finished. Lots of my pals had come out for the occassion - it was a really good night.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Tring - Peelers Pale Ale4.20ExcellentThis was a bit cold but still a nice pint - so good in fact that I didn't try any of the others. No doubt a bit on the cold side because the weather has been Baltic. Refreshing and hoppy. Nicely sharp. I suspect it would have tasted a bit sweeter if it had been served warmer.
Harviestoun - Schiehallion4.80Not Tried
Eglesbrech - Grannies Oatmeal Stout4.50Not TriedA Wing and a Prayer seems to have gone off so this is the only house ale now being served. I wonder if there are some new ones on the way?

Out with Jessica at the legendary Leckie's shop (Falkirk institution next to BTW which sells all sorts of outdoor kit, line end clothing, seconds etc goods at amazingly cheap prices). Anyway heaven's opened with an almighty sleet shower as we came out of the door. It is only ten yards from there to the front door of Behind the Wall so guess where we ended up? Very welcoming on a day like today with all the open fires blazing away and all the guest ales had changed since Saturday. Heaven - and so was the beer - sat upstairs in the window of the sports bar looking towards the Ochils which had a fresh dusting of snow - patches of blue opened up and the sun began picking out all the relief of the snowy hilltops. Beautiful. I love this pub.

Tring - Jack O Legs4.20ExceptionalBarman recommended this and suggested we have a sample. Lovely - really tasty and perfect bitterness to the hops. Readers, try this if you haven't already!

Friday is not the same without coming here. Lots of us in tonight for a birthday. The furniture works well with big groups.

Unusually dead upstairs at 7.30 - fire on but nobody home apart from Lindsay behind the bar - Mr B bought me a pint after playing footie - same beer selection as yesterday - must be the pre-payday lull - no footie on in the sports bar despite the fact there are a few games on tonight and nobody is showing the Liverpool match. Went downstairs where it was much busier - in fact one of the bar staff eventually came round to let us know the footie had been put on upstairs but we had to go.

Almost dead upstairs except for some of the usual suspects standing at the bar.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Houston - Cheeky Wee Beastie3.80AcceptableThink this is a seasonal one (label design features haggis - no doubt a Burn's season special). Not sure I like this though - interesting contrast from sweet to sharp but a bit bitter for my liking - be interested to know what hops they use.
Milestone - Crusader4.40PoorThis was flat and too cold. Yuk. Mind you it didn't seem to be putting the others off.

Very very busy - went upstairs with Mr P at about 11pm. Ears bleed band on in the sports bar - very good but far too loud. Lots of friendly smiling punters - chatted to lots of folk - strangers speak to each other in Falkirk - doing this in Edinburgh would probably get you weird looks. Bar staff doing an excellent job and still smiling. Mr P went home but I stayed 'till close at 1pm as some lassies spotted me finishing pint on my own and invited me to join them.

Put dinner in the oven and went to the pub to catch up with friends for Friday after work wind down at 5pm. Mainly regulars in the real ale bar and a big group of girls on a night out in the sports bar. Bit smokey. I guess that will become a thing of the past after 26 March when the smoking ban starts.

In late till close with two friends. Not too busy. Easily got a seat. A Houston Ale was being served as well - didn't get name - an occassional or special I think with novelty label.
