Evening. Open later than it used to be. Good conversation at the pulpit including with 3 beer and cider loving German fellows, Dad and 2 sons who I initially thought were Dutch. The landlord explained afterwards that they had mainly spoken Plattdeutsch but that the 2 sons spoke High German when speaking together.

Second pub of the day on a tour of micropubs. Peter and Kathryn were expecting us and had very kindly laid on a few nibbles which were very much appreciated. There was a beer from Bank Top on sale in addition to the ones that I have listed.

Evening. Poor timing after a Barfrestone visit. Arrived at 2140 at the very moment the lights were switched off, the key turned in the front door as the Guvs left. My fault for guessing it might have the extra hour or so on Friday and Saturday as so many Micropubs do.

This pub opened on Tuesday 12 August and this was my first visit here. It is run by Peter and Kathryn Garstin who I know from their time running Blakes of Dover, Peter told me of another micropub opening that evening at Barfreston and also told me that the Arlington micropub in Dover is expected to open at the end of this month. Prices here are very reasonable with beers under 4% being priced at £2.60 and those between 4.1 and 4.9% being priced at £2.80 per pint.

The pub is found in Dover, Kent, CT16 1JH.

Micropub situated close to the Market Square in Bench Street in the premises previously occupied by Pier Three. Run by long standing, experienced local licensees. It has comfortable chairs (including several chesterfields) plus tables and chairs at the side. The pub has a 200 years old church pulpit instead of a bar. The licensees have stated an intention to set up a micro-brewery at the rear but it has not, to date, come to fruition and after a number of years now probably never will. Has become renowned for its cask ales and a wide range of real ciders and perries, all sold under gravity dispense from a temperature controlled cellar room behind the pulpit bar. There is a food menu of items which the pub will obtain for customers from local outlets or just bring your own.

We have visited this pub 39 times, seen 83 different beers and tried 48 of them.
