My first time in Dover for many years (since the old overnight ferry to Oostende ceased in fact). I’m in this lovely little pub just after noon and there are only two customers in ahead of me. It turns out that I know both of them, so we quickly plan a little pub crawl.

Evening and last (4th stop) on a leap year birthday bash bus trip for ChrisE. Finally Happy Birthday was sung in unison prompted by Guv Peter from his pulpit. The house beer is aptly named Pulpit Ale but not badged as such yet.

Early evening and I was surprised to find an ex-work colleague at the bar. A good crowd of people that I recognise as former regulars of the sadly closed Mogul pub were sitting in the front part of the bar and customers from the Barbers Arms at the rear who were touring micropubs. I have not listed all the beers on offer.

Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Little Cracker5.00GoodExcellent condition and nice and fruity. Dark red ale with lots of spice. There were two beers on, the other was the house beer from Hopdaemon.

The pub is found in Dover, Kent, CT16 1JH.

Micropub situated close to the Market Square in Bench Street in the premises previously occupied by Pier Three. Run by long standing, experienced local licensees. It has comfortable chairs (including several chesterfields) plus tables and chairs at the side. The pub has a 200 years old church pulpit instead of a bar. The licensees have stated an intention to set up a micro-brewery at the rear but it has not, to date, come to fruition and after a number of years now probably never will. Has become renowned for its cask ales and a wide range of real ciders and perries, all sold under gravity dispense from a temperature controlled cellar room behind the pulpit bar. There is a food menu of items which the pub will obtain for customers from local outlets or just bring your own.

We have visited this pub 39 times, seen 83 different beers and tried 48 of them.
