Pub number 5 on our crawl round Sheffield. I love the setting of this pub, really pretty. Good jovial atmosphere and a solid beer selection in this place. Another pub to seek out when in Sheffield.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Fulstow (Fugelestou Ales) - Autumn Porter3.70GoodDark yet subtle porter. Nice roasted malt with a little fruit, very pleasant.
12 Sep 2009 (Martin the Mildman)
Very quiet for a Saturday.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Empire - King Beer4.00ExcellentMalty brew with lots of biscuity malt but also good hop balance. My score 16/20.
Exit 33 (formerly The Brew Company then Sky's Edge) - Conquest USPA4.00GoodVery pale bitter that was fairly hoppy and bitter, but could have been better for that true US style. My score 15/20.
Fulstow (Fugelestou Ales) - Red Squirel4.50GoodIt was spelt like that on the pumpclip. Red style ale with full bodied malty sweetness and a dryish finish. My score 15/20.
17 Jul 2009 (Ian)
We got here for lunchtime and one thing I will say about this pub, is that the food is the cheapest of any pub I have ever been in. Decent pub quality too. Beer festival was on so we shared jugs of the beers on handpull and Dave got us cellar runs of the ones not on yet too.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hopshackle - Historic IPA5.90ExcellentGold orange, lasting white head. Rose petal hop on aroma. It’s really good. Lovely sweetish malts and great hops.
Grain - Harvest Moon4.50ExcellentGold, lasting white head. Hoppy aroma, goodish sherbert in mouth. Impressive.
Tydd Steam - Road House Bitter4.30GoodAmber, thin white head. It’s a decent hop, good hop, rather drinkable. Good
Mallinsons - American Haze3.90GoodHazy gold, thin bubbly white head. Perfumed hoppy aorma. Light in mouth. One of the better golden ales we had.
Elmtree - Bitter4.20AcceptableThis was the bitter dry hopped with cascade hops. Amber, lasting beige head. Decent earthy cascades. Sweetish malt. Some toffee
The Brew Co (now called Exit 33 after a spell as Sky's Edge) - Portside4.90AcceptableBlack with ruby edges. More fruity than the straight porter that we had at the brewery beforehand. I liked this brewery and we had a brwery tour and a tasting of some of their beers. The straight porter without the port in it was very good.
Mallinsons - Malley Cat4.00AcceptableGold, thin off white hed. Smells of Angel Delight. Ok in mouth, some subtle hop on finish. OK.
Bull Box - Sled Driver5.20AcceptableGold, thin white. Some hop on finish. Odd citrus flavour, maybe kiwi fruit. Bit of toffee. Goodish
Waveney - The Other Half4.20AcceptablePale gold, thin white head. It’s an ok pretty decent pale golden ale. Some hop which is lemony
Betwixt - Hazy Days3.90AcceptablePale gold, thin white head. Light and some decent light lemon flavour. It’s ok, but a bit muted.
Backyard - One3.90PoorAmber. Caramel on aroma. Diacetyl. Pretty bad.
Ole Slewfoot - Orange Blossom Special4.40PoorClear gold, thin white head. Bit of rubber on aroma, some honey. Too much rubber. Some sweetness on swallow.
Clark's (sometimes shown as Westgate Brewery) - Kayleigh4.00PoorPale gold, no real head. No real aroma, bit of citrus and bit of cheese in the mouth. Not great.
Sticklegs - Prize Fighter4.20PoorCrystal clear amber, thin white head. Yeast and green apple aroma, really green in the mouth. Not good.
17 Jul 2009 (Martin the Mildman)
Very busy with a mini-beer festival in full swing and a Ratebeer sampling session.
BeerABVScoreNotes
The Brew Co (now called Exit 33 after a spell as Sky's Edge) - Portside4.90ExcellentPorter with added port to give a smooth, winey taste along with the existing roast malt and hop flavours. My score 16/20.
Tydd Steam - Road House Bitter4.30AcceptableGolden ale with fairly restrained malt and hop flavours. Bitter finish. My score 14/20.
Backyard - One3.90AcceptableSweetish but rather unbalanced with a hint of diacetyl. My score 13/20.
Ole Slewfoot - Orange Blossom Special4.40AcceptableFairly bitter beer with a hint of orange citrus taste. My score 14/20.

The Brew Co (now called Exit 33 after a spell as Sky's Edge) - Drayman's Choice3.80ExcellentCopper coloured with good toffee malt character with a little hop balance. My score 16/20.
Saltaire - Cherry Stout4.70ExcellentNot quite black stout with a toffeish malt base and just a hint of cherries that doesn't detract from the stout flavour. My score 16/20.
Northern (see also Blakemere) - Ric Tic4.10GoodGood hop character, some malt balance. Mid to light brown in colour. My score 15/20.
Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Hopton4.30AcceptableVery hoppy but not particularly well balanced and with a finish that was too dry for me. My score 14/20.

15 May 2009 (Arthur)
Sheffield's best pub.
