Very busy. No free tables. Lacklustre festival ales continue.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Banks's - Devil's Backbone American IPA5.20GoodBack up for when the cask list is dull - again.
Hook Norton - Inspired4.70Acceptable3* just. Two dimensional beer that didn't live up to its name.
20 Mar 2015 (McGargle)
Pretty much the same uninspiring ale range as last night.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Banks's - Devil's Backbone American IPA5.20Good
19 Mar 2015 (McGargle)
Generally uninspiring seledtion of mostly festival beers.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Banks's - Devil's Backbone American IPA5.20GoodMuch better than previous sample but still slightly too much Banks's malt bill, slightly too few US hops. Perfectly drinkable though.
Wadworth - Dungarvan O'Dwyer's Irish Stout4.50AcceptableGood, perhaps too dry stout. Tasty(ish) but one was quite enough.
12 Mar 2015 (McGargle)
Busy on a foul evening.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Adnams - Nils Oscar India Ale5.30GoodSome maltiness, dusty hops. Hid its strength.
05 Mar 2015 (McGargle)
Filling up. Disappointing beer choice.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Orkney (Sinclair) - Nimbus Blonde (Atlas range)5.00AcceptableSlightly sweet and less hoppy than last time.
Orkney (Sinclair) - Northern Light (superseded by separate 4% entry)3.80AcceptableMalty. Not too light.
19 Feb 2015 (McGargle)
Busy. Service struggling to cope.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Orkney (Sinclair) - Nimbus Blonde (Atlas range)5.00GoodDependable old school Pale Ale. Very drinkable.
Caledonian - Harpoon The Long Thaw White IPA5.50PoorHeard good reports of this earlier in the week but this was tired and astringent.
02 Feb 2015 (McGargle)
Good ervice as usual. No cask of interest but the craft range kept us interested.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Sixpoint - Bengali Tiger (can) - was 6.4%6.50Excellent
Sixpoint - The Crisp (can)5.40GoodI think this is a good beer but, perhaps, unfair to judge after Bengali.
29 Jan 2015 (McGargle)
Quite busy, excellent friendly service.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Cairngorm - Trade Winds4.30ExcellentServed in excellent condition this was not Trade Winds as I remember it but it was fresh, slightly sweet and floral.
27 Jan 2015 (McGargle)
Under new management so let's see how it goes.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Summerskills - Indiana's Bones5.60AcceptableOK winter warmer.
West Berkshire - Good Old Boy4.00AcceptableDull bitter.
22 Jan 2015 (McGargle)
Rooster's Fort Smith just finished and none of the other cask beers appealed so...
BeerABVScoreNotes
